Lechtal bridge just as loud after renovation as before?

Schongau - For almost a week now, traffic on the B17 has been rolling over the Lechtal bridge again, and Schongau has been quiet for a short time.

On the other hand, some citizens still perceive the bridge itself to be as loud as it used to be.

Schongau - As is well known, the state building authority had extra new rubbers installed in the so-called transition structures in the course of the road renewal.

They were supposed to mitigate the metallic knocks that could be heard from afar until the renovation, which occurred when cars and trucks drove over the thresholds.

Complete renewal would have resulted in a significantly longer full closure

A few years ago, the state building authority was still considering completely renewing the transition structures of the Lechtal bridge.

As it turned out, they are still intact.

Therefore, only the slide bearings and rubbers were exchanged, explains a site manager from Strommer, which was commissioned to renovate the B17 near Schongau.

According to the site manager, the complete renovation of the transition structures would have taken twelve weeks.

Until then, the traffic would have been diverted through the two places.

The state building authority had now promised itself noise reductions simply by replacing springs and rubber buffers.

Because the construction had "play", the blows were transmitted from the sleepers in the roadway to the caps on the sidewalks.

The metal plates on top hit the caps, creating the noise that could be heard as far as Schongau.

And supposedly he still is.

The blows can be heard both on the bridge itself and in Schongau at UPM, report readers of the local newspaper.

"They even seem worse and louder than before to me," comments one.

State building authority: residents should definitely hear blows more quietly

The department head Andreas Lenker, who is responsible for road construction in the state building authority, has a very difficult time understanding this with a view to the improvements.

It is clear to him that the drivers perceive the beating as "felt louder" than before.

Finally they drive over the new, low-noise asphalt and then over the old sleepers.

"But the residents should definitely hear the blows more quietly," says Lenker.

Meanwhile, his colleague German Abenthum, who is responsible for building bridges, does not entirely rule out the possibility of further improvements.

He himself has not yet been there, says Abenthum, but wants to make up for it: "We have to see how it develops."

Meanwhile, work on and on the B17 continues as planned.

The earthworks at the Altenstadt junction had already started this week.

As reported, it will have additional access and exit roads so that dangerous left turns will no longer be necessary in the future.

From Monday the B17 traffic will roll through Altenstadt and Schongau

The renovation of the carriageway between the Schongau-West and Altenstadt junctions will begin on Monday.

The state building authority has planned three weeks for the 2.5 kilometers, the diversions are signposted: The traffic coming from the south will roll through Altenstadt.

Road users from the north have to go through Schongau again - then the rest is over again.
