Marlène Schiappa attacks the ecologist Éric Piolle on the burkini

2021-07-16T14:19:32.313Z

The Minister Delegate in charge of Citizenship criticized the mayor of Grenoble for his complacency and his ambiguity about Islamism.

The executive is working hard.

While the interministerial committee on secularism was set up this week and the “separatism” bill is due to be adopted Thursday, July 22 in the National Assembly, the debate is shifting to a more political space.

Even partisan.

It is the Minister Delegate in charge of Citizenship Marlène Schiappa who went to the front Friday morning on CNEWS.

In his viewfinder, Eric Piolle, mayor (EELV) of Grenoble (Isère) and candidate for the primary of the Greens.

Faced with a new operation by pro Burkini in a swimming pool in the city, the minister did not mince words.

"

It is not trivial that it is happening in Grenoble, whose mayor is very complacent and ambiguous about Islamism",

first attacked Marlène Schiappa.

There had already been a punch action on the burkini, the mayor had not reacted.

He had waited for me to react in the media to, several days later, say that he did not really know what to do, and that it was ultimately a form of freedom on the part of these people, ”

she added. .

"It is the mayor's responsibility"

Ordinary clothing? Cultural sign? Ostentatious religious sign? For several years, wearing the burkini on beaches and in public swimming pools has electrified political debate. And reactivates a stubborn cleavage. On the one hand, the proponents of a “republican line” very focused on secularism and the criticism of ostentatious religious symbols; on the other, the defenders of “religious and sartorial freedom”. The latter accuse their opponents of making "discriminatory remarks" against religion in general and Islam in particular.

Hence the regular attack by Marlène Schiappa against the mayor EELV. “

It is the mayor's responsibility. Mr. Piolle wants to be a candidate for the primary to become President of the Republic. He does not know how to enforce the internal regulations of his municipal swimming pool, and he intends to become President of the Republic, guarantor of the institutions. It's pretty funny… ”

she mocked.

According to the minister, “

these people want to set a new standard”.

To combat this offensive, the government is

"in action": "around twenty very concrete measures with, for example, the extension of the principle of secularism, of religious neutrality to public service delegates (...) we will also be training 100% of public officials by 2024 (...) and also the creation of a secularism day on December 9, ”

said Marlène Schiappa.

Referring to the dissolution of the CCIF, she specifies that "

all associations will now have to ratify a republican engagement contract if they want to receive public action subsidies".

As 2022 approaches, the executive wants to strengthen its sovereign flank by stepping up the fight against political Islamism. First way to obtain concrete changes after the assassination of Samuel Paty, who had followed the speech of Mureaux (Seine-Saint-Denis) of the Head of State in October 2020. But above all to leave the least amount of possible angles of attack to the right and to the National Rally.
