The deceased, Li Ho-ting (54 years old), was shot in the chest in the Jiabao Food Supermarket on Reclamation Street in Yau Ma Tei on March 16, 2019.
Li's brother earlier confessed that Li ranked third among the four brothers and sisters in their family. He had not been in contact with Li for 20 years. He claimed that Li Chang asked his family for money to buy drugs, and he also knew that his brother had a criminal record and was imprisoned from time to time.
Before the incident, Li had a dispute with the supermarket manager
Liu Haixiong, who was the manager of the supermarket at the time of the incident, said that Li had stolen in the store many times in the past. On the day of the incident, he heard a colleague yelling about the theft and saw Li in the store. They had expelled Li from the store.
