Curfew from 1 to 6 am, social gatherings of up to 10 people and masks in nightlife venues: restrictions due to the pandemic will return to Catalonia, the region of Spain with the incidence rate of covid -19 highest in the country.

Until July 23, social gatherings will be for a maximum of 10 people, except cohabitants, and "it is not possible to eat or drink in a group in authorized public spaces", according to the website of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

For bars and restaurants, the hours will be until 12:30 a.m., with a mandatory mask while not eating or drinking.

For cultural events, the public must be seated, without dancing, with a mask and at a time until 12:30 a.m.

Nightlife will be until the same time, outside and on the terraces, with groups of maximum 10 people, dancing is not allowed and a mask must be worn.

The curfew must be authorized by a court and would occur over a period of seven days in areas of more than 5,000 inhabitants with a high incidence rate of coronavirus, according to Reuters.

Some of the cities that will have restrictions are beach resorts such as Barcelona, ​​Sitges, Salou and Lloret de Mar. Other 158 municipalities will also see the restrictions.

Pere Aragonés, the president of the Generalitat, said that the "decision [is] difficult but essential" and that he hopes "to reverse it as soon as the pandemic allows it."

For its part, the Valencian Community also introduced new covid-19 measures that will be in force until July 25.

Night mobility will be restricted from 1 to 6 am in Valencia and 35 other locations.

The sale of alcohol is prohibited between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m., except in the hotel business.

Social gatherings may be held with a maximum of 10 people and, from July 10, "the activity of discos, dance halls and cocktail bars with and without live musical performances, pubs, cyber-cafes is suspended," the website of the Valencia City Council. 

The hotel business will be open until 12:30 a.m., "without being able to accept orders from 0:00 a.m."

The capacity will be 50% indoors and 100% on terraces.

Likewise, Cantabria will implement a curfew in 53 municipalities and will limit meetings to a maximum of 6 people who do not live together.

The local government request must be approved by the courts.

Meanwhile, in the Canary Islands, the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands denied the request of the regional government to impose a curfew between 0:30 am and 6 am on the islands with the highest epidemiological situation.

Covid-19 situation in Spain

The state of alarm in Spain expired on May 9 and, with it, the country lifted the national curfew at that time.

Some tourist destinations maintained some restrictions, which were gradually eased at the discretion of local governments.

The Spanish Ministry of Health reported this Thursday more than 237,000 cases diagnosed in the last 14 days, with a cumulative national incidence of 500.75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

In Catalonia, this rate in the last 14 days is 1,107.54 per 100,000 inhabitants.

As of Thursday, Spain has administered more than 49.5 million doses, with almost 23 million people with the complete vaccination schedule, according to data from the ministry.
