Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi today stressed the importance of unswervingly deepening and upgrading Sino-Russian relations and comprehensive strategic coordination.
During his meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, the Chinese Foreign Minister stressed, according to Xinhua, "the importance of the two sides cooperating to firmly support the principles of the United Nations Charter and true multilateralism, resolutely opposing external interference in their internal affairs, opposing provoking confrontations between blocs, and protecting international peace and stability."
In turn, Lavrov praised the level of bilateral relations and said that "Russian-Chinese relations are at their best throughout history," pointing out that the current relationship is a new type of bilateral relations.
Last June, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a videoconference meeting, during which they decided to extend the Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Friendly Cooperation between the two countries and issued a joint statement in this regard.
