For the high school graduates of the Christoph-Probst-Gymnasium in Gilching, their school days ended on Friday morning with the handover of certificates in the gym.

Gilching - A quick photo with the family, put on the lipstick and put the mask over mouth and nose - then on Friday morning the high school graduates of the Christoph-Probst-Gymnasium in Gilching went to the festively decorated gym.

After much back and forth, all 12th graders were able to receive certificates from school principal Peter Meyer together with their parents and siblings.

“Actually, I wanted to give the 2012 graduation speech.

Probably nobody can remember them anyway, ”joked Meyer.

“But the events of the past year and a half thwarted my plans.” For months, the high school graduates could only study online due to corona, their teachers and friends only saw them on screen.

"When you started Q11 two years ago, an offer of days off and special regulations would probably have sounded tempting," said Meyer to the 149 high school graduates who sat with their families in groups of four throughout the triple gym.

"Looking back, we know that we would have gladly waived this offer."

Despite homeschooling, the 2021 Abitur class passed the exams with flying colors.

"Nobody failed this year, everyone passed," said Meyer.

He is particularly proud of the three students who achieved an average of 1.0.

19 other 12th graders achieved an average grade of 1.5 or better and 56 pupils ended up with a 1.9 or better on the certificate.

“A really great result,” praised Meyer.

The award ceremony was accompanied by musical pieces by the twelfth graders.

While two high school graduates enchanted the guests with their violins, a student with "One moment in time" by Whitney Houston set the mood.

Not only the teachers but also the parents congratulated them on the successful Abitur and wished them all the best for the future.

"Despite all the resistance and difficulties you made it," said Azita Rebhan from the parents' council.

“The school is now behind you.

Look forward to everything that comes next. "

After school principal Meyer had distributed the Abitur prizes for the subjects German, Spanish, mathematics and geography to the best of the year, the awarding of certificates began.

"Each of you gets a white rose, like on the first day of school," said Meyer.

“This closes the circle.” Arranged according to German courses, the students stepped on the stage and accepted their testimony.

As a final piece of advice, Meyer gave the high school graduates: "Keep in touch!"
