There is still a housing shortage in Freising.

A project in the Steinpark could provide some relief and at the same time serve as a model for the whole city.

Freising

- It's called a city balcony, you have a clear view of the meadow - that sounds tempting. It is the last lot that - located in the far north - is still to be built on in the residential area on the site of the former stone barracks. And what is special about it is that it should be implemented as cooperative living. At an online event, the city and Stattbau münchen GmbH, which was accompanying the process, provided information on how to do it with such a cooperative.

Around 80 interested people followed the lectures virtually on Thursday evening.

Freising's 3rd Mayoress Birgit Mooser-Niefanger found this "a fascinating topic".

Team up, plan together, build together, live together - these are the goals that the city of Freising set itself in its STEP 2030 urban development program: housing for everyone, promoting social diversity, allowing the population to have a say in planning and the promotion of communal living.

The city is already looking at other residential areas for cooperatives

City architect Barbara Schelle explained what could be built in the “last lot” in the very north of the area: 80 to 85 apartments in five four- or five-story structures. If the cooperative building works well at this point, then it could serve as a model for Freising. After all, administration and politics are already looking at other residential areas in which cooperatives are to be given a chance.

Christian Stupka fromstattbau explained how it works with such a cooperative: unlike in a community of owners, there are no condominiums, but the assets that have been created belong to everyone.

The advantage: affordable long-term living space, lively neighborhoods, mutual help.

Of course, it is also part of getting involved and taking responsibility beyond your own home.

The plots are to be put out to tender at the beginning of next year

Stupka's colleague Natalie Schaller then explained how to get to a plot of land and thus to an apartment: After a group of people willing to build has come together, a concept must be drawn up and then presented to the city, which will then evaluate it taking into account the criteria previously established . The best concept ultimately wins the bid. According to Schaller, there are several possibilities for cooperative building: Either you become a member of an existing building cooperative, or you look for a building cooperative as a cooperation partner or you found a new cooperative.

The approximate schedule, as thestattbau has set out based on its experience, assumes that the properties will be put out to tender at the beginning of 2022, and the award and award of the contract should take place in mid-2022, so that the future residents can move in 18 to 24 months later.

The address has already been determined: Emil-Berg-Straße, 85356 Freising.
