Pedestrians and cyclists who want to cross the Würm in Karlsfeld have to accept a long detour.
Because it will be months before the bridges on Allacher Straße / Wehrstaudenstraße and Eichenweg, which were dismantled in August 2020, are rebuilt.

- Almost a year ago, the quarterly visual inspection by employees of the Karlsfeld building yard and the civil engineering department showed that the two bridges "should be closed for reasons of traffic safety", as the local administration put it at the time.
Immediately, the wooden structures were completely dilapidated.
A new building cannot be waited for.
These new buildings would not come so quickly, the town hall knew that immediately.
The civil engineering department let it be known back then in the summer that “2020 won't be any more”.
Nothing came of it in the first half of 2021 either.
And now we can expect further delays.
As announced by the municipal administration, the necessary building materials will be available at the end of November or beginning of December at the earliest.
There are around 40 bridge structures in the municipality's area of responsibility in Karlsfeld. They cause "an increasing amount of work for the employees of the building yard," said the administration. That is why the decision was made to try something new in the area of pedestrian and cycle path bridges: not least because of the budgetary situation, the new bridges should have the lowest possible life cycle costs. This is guaranteed by constructions made of aluminum and / or glass fiber reinforced plastic, unlike the conventional materials wood, steel and reinforced concrete. Both materials have been used successfully in pedestrian and cycle path bridge construction for some time and are characterized by their long technical service life, their high mechanical strength and virtually no maintenance.
A few days ago, the building and works committee of the municipal council passed the resolution that the bridge superstructure on Allacher Strasse / Wehrstaudenstrasse should first be renewed - using aluminum. After the summer break, the construction and works committee will discuss the renewal of the bridge superstructure on Eichenweg. Talks are currently underway with manufacturers of aluminum bridges.
The Karlsfeld municipal administration admitted in August 2020 that the inspection of these two bridges showed that a renovation was no longer sufficient, also surprised the employees in the building department. The condition of the bridges deteriorated very quickly. Both bridges are many years old. In addition, the materials are constantly moistened so close to the water, which causes damage. Several significant damage was discovered - to the base girders, the railings and the wooden plank floors.
