In order to improve the reality of drinking water and sanitation in the cities and towns of the governorates of Damascus and its countryside, the Ministry of Water Resources continues to implement projects to extend drinking water networks, dig and rehabilitate wells, implement water tanks and dams, establish sewage projects and isolate rivers.

According to a report by the ministry, which SANA obtained a copy of, the Damascus and Rural Water Establishment implemented projects from the beginning of 2021 until the first of last June, including the replacement and rehabilitation of pipes and connections in the drinking water network of the town of Basimah affiliated to the Qudsaya Water Unit, the extension of a water network in the Al-Tawafiq neighborhood of the Qatana Water Unit, and the extension of networks Drinking water in the residences of readiness in the suburb of Qudsaya, the military desert housing, the suburb of Al-Fayha and the Al-Basel neighborhood in the city of Qatna in its first three phases, Al-Nabek, Ras Al-Maarah, Jayrud, Hala, Arnah, Qal’at Jandal and Dimas

Among the projects of the first six months, according to the report, are the rehabilitation of the high reservoir pumping line complex within the eastern Barzeh pumping center, the replacement and rehabilitation of pipes and connections in the drinking water network in Yarmouk camp, the completion of works to implement an underground tank capacity of 1,000 cubic meters with all the attached buildings in Hosh al-Shaer, and the extension of water lines to feed Al-Kuwaiti construction area and implementation of a 10,000 cubic meter tank in Sahnaya

According to the report, the ministry has completed the rehabilitation work of the siphon in the old tunnel of the city of Damascus, stage 2, and the implementation of the assembly lines for the wells of the Sumariyah pumping station, the first and second stage, and the preparation of research wells with the wells assembly line with the “mechanical and electrical” ancillary works, section 1-2, and the construction of the direct campus of Al-Fijah Spring “stage First, Second and Third” and equipping wells for “Al-Jawza in Sahnaya and Qerhata in Ghazlaniya and Al-Warda Al-Shamiya in Al-Nabek” and providing pumps for the Al-Raymah project, and rehabilitating and replacing the pipes of the drinking water network in Al-Dameer, Al-Hussainiya, Al-Shurta neighborhood of the Sayeda Zainab and Jaba’deen water unit, Al-Arin Qudsaya housing and 4 Jazira Al-Assad suburb Harasta.

In the field of sanitation, the implementation rate of the project to remove pollution from the Barada River and its branches “lines and two treatment plants” reached about 50 percent, with the follow-up of the work of the sewage project in the Jaramana estuary “the emergency solution” and the treatment plants in Adra, Jamraya and Al Hama, and of the sewage lines expected to be put into service this year According to the report, the estuary of Al-Marah and the sewage project for the city of Jayrud.

As for the projects of the Public Authority for Water Resources, the rehabilitation of the dam and the eastern spillway canal of the Damir Dam and covering part of the Qadam River in the city of Jaramana, in addition to isolating the course of the Barada River and Al-Awj and their branches, opening and removing the dams, and isolating the waste and sediments from the waterways in the areas of Hazrama, Hosh Al-Salihiya, Ain Al-Zariqa, Al-Nashabiya and Al-Maidani.
