As-Suwayda-Sana
The Directorate of Agriculture in As-Suwayda initially estimated the governorate’s total production of fig fruits for the current season at 1707 tons, of which 1637 tons are for rainfed crops and the rest for irrigated crops.
The Director of Agriculture in As-Suwayda, Engineer Ayham Hamed, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that the estimated production is relatively less than last season, and production may be affected by high temperatures if it continues in the coming days.
He pointed to the economic feasibility of growing figs, especially when the fruits are properly invested in the manufacturing process of jams or dried, as it is popular among the people for its health benefits.
The total area planted with figs in the governorate is 3,190 dunums, and the total number of trees planted in it is 101 thousand trees, of which 92,000 trees are fruitful, concentrated in the western region of the governorate and the Qanawat and Dhar al-Jabal regions.
