The Maro Group wants to realize self-determined and neighborly life in old age.

You can imagine something like that in Putzbrunn.

Putzbrunn - The community is planning a senior citizens' dormitory, the first rooms are to be built next to the house for children on Münchner Straße.

In order to get an overview of the different concepts for caring for the elderly, experts are invited to the local council.

Martin Okrslar from the Maro-Genossenschaft in Ohlstadt made the start.

He convinced with his concept.

Focus on shared apartments

Okrslar is the director of the Maro company, which he founded in 2012.

The company stands for self-determined and neighborly living, the focus is on shared apartments for dementia and assisted care as well as multi-generational forms of living.

“Since we are all getting older, we have to deal with more and more people with dementia.

Around two percent of the population get it, ”said Okrslar.

The main problem is the relatives who suffer from it 24 hours a day.

“That is why we decided to set up special dementia shared apartments in our houses.

Each shared apartment has a maximum of twelve residents, each with their own room and bathroom and a large common room. "

Relatives agree on the daily routine

The special thing about the Maro concept is that the relatives of the residents form a committee in which the daily routines are discussed. So there is no overarching concept of an operator. "The goal is that for every resident - who only comes to us when it simply doesn't work at home - it should be as possible as at home," said Okrslar. The cooperative builds and provides the premises and keeps everything running. The relatives decide on the daily routine. “The residents should do as much as possible as long as possible, which they can do, that is, wash clothes, cook, do handicrafts and much more. Our concept is designed in such a way that the resident stays with us until their death. "This concept is an enormous relief for the relatives and will already be in Weilheim,Ober- and Unterhaching or Dietramszell successfully implemented.

Affordable housing is the goal

The second part of the Maro retirement homes are multi-generation shared apartments: Every family, with or without children, or senior citizens, has their own, self-contained apartment: “Those who want to meet regularly with the others in the courtyard or in a common room.

The goal is affordable housing.

You help each other because you know each other.

Everyone does caretaker service together and they share cars and cargo bikes, ”explained Okrslar.

Already two years before moving in, everyone meets and discusses the common concept.

"The local population always has priority over strangers, dementia and multi-generation shared apartments can easily be accommodated in a shared house."

"That is exactly what we are looking for."

Mayor Edwin Klostermeier (SPD) was enthusiastic about the Maro concept, “that's exactly what we are looking for.” Eduard Boger (CSU) also agreed, “Children, families, couples, senior citizens, day care and dementia under one Roof, that's great. ”Alfons Meßner (CSU) wanted to know whether there was a specific need for such a concept in Putzbrunn. Okrslar: “I don't know the place enough for that, but our dementia shared apartments were always full immediately. In the case of the multi-generations you have to explain a little at the beginning, but then they are also very well received.
