Tarantino, sick of so much ideology

The director, who is already thinking about the withdrawal, regrets that the pressure for political correctness is put above art. Says someone who always did what he wanted

Quentin Tarantino doesn't plan to make more movies than one last movie.

He prefers to leave it at the top.

"I know the history of cinema and from now on directors do not improve," he told Bill Maher in

Real Time

(on Movistar +).

Tarantino is 58 years old, and Maher, 65, squirmed in his chair to reply that he would surely do better

Reservoir Dogs now

than in 1992. Maybe he will, he admitted, but he won't try.

Tarantino, now also a novelist, showed his fed up with the pressure for political correctness prevailing in Hollywood.

“Something that has happened, especially in the last year, is that ideology is more important than art.

Ideology is imposed on art, on individual effort, on the good, on entertainment ”.

It was on friendly ground, because Maher is openly leftist but critical of what they call the

woke

or cancellation

culture there

.

That commitment to just causes so susceptible that it falls into censorship tics like those of the reactionaries.

Nor has Tarantino had so much trouble, who always did what he wanted. You have a reason that activism cannot permeate everything. The wave breaks into festivals and galas: the Golden Globes are under siege due to the lack of diversity of its jury; The Oscars have been giving priority to the most committed cinema for years and San Sebastián has decided that it will not award prizes for best actress and best actor, but for best performance because the genre "is a cultural and political construction." Which will lead, as an obvious side effect, to fewer women (and men) being awarded.

There is every reason to speak out against racism, sexism and other prejudices in the audiovisual industry and in all others.

But a good cause doesn't guarantee a good movie.

And there were always great movies with no other cause than to make you have a good time.

Creation moves better without a tight corset.
