Just five days before the opening of the Olympics, organizers in Tokyo said today (Sunday) that two competitors staying in the Olympic Village had contracted the corona virus.

The two athletes are from the same country and the same industry, but they were not identified by the organizers.

In Japan, there are fears that the influx of foreigners who will come to the games, even if they take place without an audience, will exacerbate the outbreak in the country.

In total, ten new cases related to the Olympics were reported today, including a third athlete not staying in the Olympic Village, compared to 15 cases yesterday.

In the UK, Health Minister Sajid Javid has been positively diagnosed with the corona virus, but he said he suffered from mild symptoms after being vaccinated twice.

Following this, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Secretary of the Treasury will undergo daily inspections to avoid isolation and continue work.

Javid, who has been in office for just three weeks, supports Johnson's plan to reopen the economy and lift restrictions starting tomorrow, despite a resurgence.

The two say that the kingdom's successful vaccination campaign has succeeded in breaking the link between contracting the virus and mortality from it.

Britain has vaccinated two-thirds of its adult citizens, but it does not vaccinate children.

Some scientists warn that the government's plan is dangerous due to the significant number of unvaccinated and the fact that vaccines are not 100% effective, especially against the Delta variant first identified in India.

The number of new cases is on the rise again.

Across the canal, thousands demonstrated in France yesterday in protest of President Emanuel Macron's plan to require medical staff to be vaccinated and present vaccination certificates or negative tests at the entrance to places of entertainment. The protesters said it was a violation of their freedom of choice.

"Everyone has a right to their body. The president of the republic has no right to decide on my personal health," said a Paris protester, who identified herself as Crystal. Demonstrations were also held in other major cities, such as Marseille, Lyon and Lille, and were also attended by supporters of the "yellow vests" protest.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex said during a visit to Angela in the south-west of the country that vaccines are the only way to beat the virus. "I hear the reservations that come up, but I think we need to convince all our citizens to get vaccinated, at all costs, because that's the best way to deal with this health crisis," Castex said.

Despite the scale of the protests, a poll published on Friday showed that more than 60% of French people agree with the mandatory vaccination of medical staff and the presentation of health certificates in some public places.

The daily number of infections in France dropped from more than 42,000 in mid-April to less than 2,000 at the end of June, but has recently re-jumped to 11,000.

About 55.1% of French people received at least one dose of the vaccine and 44.2% received both - a rate that is not enough to stop the spread of the virus.
