The Freising Senior Citizens' Union came together for the first time in over a year.

The afternoon promised to be a very exciting one.

Haag

- Chairman Franz Donauer had invited a very special speaker to the meeting of the Seniors' Union in the Ampertal restaurant in Haag.

Jochen Wilske, an experienced forensic doctor, gave a lecture on the topic of "TV crime thriller: Forensic medicine between science and fiction".

In addition, the CSU member of the Bundestag Erich Irlstorfer came.

First meeting after a year and a half

“The past time has demanded a lot from all of us,” said Franz Donauer, referring to the past year and a half. "So I'm all the more happy that we can finally sit together again."

And because the first meeting should be particularly exciting after a long time, Jochen Wilske stepped in front of the senior citizens immediately after the introductory words. The highly respected forensic doctor talked about his work, took the audience with him to particularly exciting cases and explained the key differences between forensic medicine in crime and in reality. "The most important attribute of a crime thriller is blood," said Wilske. This is particularly noticeable with autopsied bodies that are shown in crime thrillers: "There is a thick, bloody cut with a rough seam across the upper body," the forensic doctor described a scene that everyone probably knows from films. “Of course we work a lot cleaner and we set our cuts completely differently.” Jochen Wilske also cleared up one of the most famous myths that are circulating among laypeople:“I hear especially often:“ She drowned, she has water in her lungs. That is simply nonsense. ”If a fatality drowns in the freshwater area, the lungs are mostly dry. The reason for this: “The lungs stop working before the heart stops. So the water is still being transported away. "

The task of forensic medicine: Bringing the truth to light

Before he presented some of his most exciting cases to the elderly, Wilske went into more detail about the role of forensic medicine.

"It is now called forensic medicine, no longer forensic medicine," said the expert.

“This is because we are not bound to any court.

Forensic doctors are only obliged to comply with the law. ”So it is his job to use the autopsy to help understand the truth of a death as precisely as possible.

"I can say one thing for sure: nowhere in the world are there so much lies as in the courtroom."

When he goes to work, he is usually faced with major hurdles at the beginning of the investigation: “If someone dies and it is not clear whether it was a natural or an induced death, then the relatives often do not want the police in the house at all to have.

Many are initially afraid of what the neighbors will think. "

Tragic case: Poisoned by the domestic help

The forensic doctor's task is above all one thing: "I have to find out whether there is an external influence or whether tragic, but not influenceable circumstances have led to the death of a person."

A particularly tragic case happened between an 89-year-old man and his domestic help. The victim had an electric shock scar on his left armpit, which he survived. The senior had often handled electricity and suffered this injury. The doctor diagnosed death from natural heart failure. "The son of the deceased was absolutely certain that there was more to it," said the forensic doctor. So it was autopsied. And the son's suspicions should be confirmed: "The man had been pumped full of benzodiazepines, extremely strong sedatives, by his domestic help." Then the suspect called the doctor twice and said that the 89-year-old was suffering from sleep problems. The doctor administered a light sedative. "The combination with the strong sedatives that he had already been given before, however, was too much for the heart of the senior." In retrospect it also turned out that the domestic help had already written over the entire assets of the deceased from him to let. What sounds like something out of an early-evening thriller is the forensic doctor's day-to-day work.
