Optimism and sparkling zest for life shaped the three high school graduation celebrations with which the Josef-Effner-Gymnasium said goodbye to its 155 graduates one after the other on Friday.

The mere fact that the events could take place as planned was cause for joy.

Dachau - Because at some high schools in Upper Bavaria, graduation parties had to be canceled at short notice due to corona cases.

Not at the JEG, as headmaster Peter Mareis said with relief: “I'm glad we're allowed to celebrate.” Even if there weren't as many guests as was usual before the pandemic, there were - in contrast to the previous year - at After the celebratory farewell in the school auditorium, greetings and, above all, a graduation speech from the headmaster.

As a suggestion, Mareis had rummaged through “Lost in Translation”, a booklet on “untranslatable words from all over the world”.

The result was a speech as cheerful as it was profound, which entertained the audience in the best possible way.

The students had “really achieved something extraordinary,” said school principal Mareis.

150 school assignments and 250 exes written, 300 questions completed and, with five final exams, “the summit cross in the form of the Abitur”.

And of course she learned a lot more for life in the course of her school career from choir, rowing, juggling and Italian.

After all the efforts, the young men and women should now "Uitwaaien" recommended Mareis, which means something like "take a break to clear your head" in Dutch.

Thanks to the senior coordinator

Mareis sent a special thank you to senior school coordinator Annett Hübner, who looked after the graduating class day and night, despite difficult external circumstances creating "a feel-good environment for graduation".

High school graduate Diana Unger also thanked Hübner, who had achieved "that despite ten changes to the specifications, everything went like clockwork".

The difficult circumstances under which this final year graduated from high school were not particularly addressed.

But Unger is certain “that we can now manage everything that follows”.

There was praise for all graduates from student Sophie Zeppenfeld, who stated that in the "great level" everyone was always tolerant, solidary and respectful of one another.

As a representative in the office, Government Director Alexander Krug gave a short greeting in two celebrations for the sick district administrator.

According to Krug, the graduates “learned a lot that will be of great use to them in life” despite or precisely because of the adverse circumstances.

Deputy District Administrator Marianne Klaffki, who then represented Löwl in the third celebration, praised the graduates who had “kept their nerves and a clear head”.

“Keep your own head and use it to think.

Help shape our future, ”she called on the young people.

To hand over their certificates, the graduates came to the front to the sounds of a personally selected piece of music, and received the traditional red rose at the Effner with the certificate.

Chair Stephanie Hörl honored five schoolchildren who were particularly socially committed to the community and were given a voucher as a gift on behalf of the parents' council.

Two young men and one young woman who graduated with a dream grade of 1.0 received special applause.

All three already have specific plans for the time after their Abitur.

Rabea Gärtner, who, as she emphasizes, “always had the most fun” in chemistry, physics and mathematics, wants to study molecular medicine.

In contrast, Patrick Klaus is initially drawn abroad.

First he would like to use the language travel grant that he received from the Sparkasse when he was the best at school.

Then volunteer to support an environmental project in the Dominican Republic for six months to nine months and learn Spanish in the process.

He then aims to study business informatics.

The third high school graduate Fabian Darabi Far provided the musical accompaniment for his graduation ceremonies with an impressive performance of Tchaikovsky's piano concerto.

Professionally, however, he will not use his musical talent.

Rather, he would like to study mathematics, according to Darabi Far, “in order to go into research later”.

School principal Mareis advised school director Mareis, the Arabic "Samar", that a single word should suffice not only for the top students, but for all graduates.

That means: staying up long after sunset and having a good time with friends.

The graduates are likely to have followed this advice from their rector.
