Around 280 young people and adults were vaccinated on the two days of action at the weekend in Gilching and Herrsching.

A result that surprised both the Bavarian Red Cross and District Administrator Stefan Frey.

A visit.

District

- Put the yellow vaccination book in your bathing bag in the morning, drive to Herrsching to the Ammersee, get vaccinated on the lake promenade and, as a little treat, go for a ride in the watchtower boat. District Administrator Stefan Frey imagined yesterday's special vaccination day “Vaccination with a view of the lake” in front of the BRK building and also publicly praised it. However, the weather thwarted his idea. Continuous rain and 15 degrees. "When I woke up this morning, I literally thought that vaccination day would fall through," said Frey on Sunday morning. "I was really surprised when I got here."

A queue of waiting citizens with umbrellas about 100 meters long stretched along the lake promenade.

“The first were in front of the BRK building half an hour before the start,” said Nicole Scheibenpflug, head of the vaccination center in Gauting.

Diskpflug had already thought that the special vaccination days would be well received.

However, she did not expect the rush to be so great.

Because: “We have had appointments at the vaccination center for days that citizens can come to without registering.

But the offer is used very little. "

It was all the more important to organize the two special vaccination days.

“We now have to actively approach the population.

And when I see this, "said Scheibenpflug, waving his hand in the direction of the waiting crowd," then I think we did everything right. "

Three doctors, four medical assistants, two administrative staff and eight helpers from the BRK from Seefeld and Herrsching made the day of action possible.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., 150 vaccines from Biontech and Johnson & Johnson were inoculated to locals, but also to citizens from other counties.

"There are some vacationers who happened to hear that we are organizing a vaccination day," said Scheibenpflug.

The BRK helpers sweetened the waiting time of about an hour before registration with a warm coffee, which they distributed in cups to those who wanted to be vaccinated.

"In Gilching I personally apologized to everyone for the long wait," said Scheibenpflug.

Most citizens, however, would have shown understanding.

"'You can wait a bit longer for something like this' - that was the attitude of many."

Georg Heuchert (56) from Wörthsee became aware of the special vaccination day through his daughter.

"She works at the water station and kept telling me that I should get vaccinated," he said.

Despite his initial doubts, Heuchert had Biontech injected the vaccine on the day of action.

Not only adults but also young people came to Herrsching and Gilching at the weekend accompanied by their parents.

“In view of the start of school in autumn, it is important that we also reach the young people.

The vaccination is more important than any air filter, ”said District Administrator Stefan Frey.

Together with her mother Nina Schäfer, 14-year-old Melina joined the vaccination queue.

The ruler found out about the day of action through an information letter from the school.

Melina wants to be vaccinated to protect her grandmother.

“It's not always about yourself, you have to think about the others too,” she said.

That is also the reason why the 14-year-old Georg Führer decided to have the vaccination.

“I'm a youth group leader at the BRK,” said the man from Seefeld, who had come to the Herrschinger lake promenade with his parents.

"I don't want to be a source of danger there."

The BRK ended the special vaccination day a little later than planned at around 4.20 p.m.

“The atmosphere was great throughout.

It's great that so many people came, ”said Scheibenpflug.

Frey was also enthusiastic.

"I am confident that we will achieve a vaccination rate of 70 to 80 percent by the beginning of autumn," he said.

"This is the only way we can break the cycle and create herd immunity."
