The trees are recovering from the drought.
The bark beetle does not bother the Freising Forestry Company either.
But vandalism creates trouble.
Freising
- One is slowly no longer ready and also no longer able to repair the damage caused by the binge drinking and to clear away the rubbish. Freising's forest operations manager, Alfred Fuchs, even fears that the forest adventure trail, which is known far beyond the district boundaries, will suffer permanent damage to its image. It was "terribly annoying" what the hordes of drunkards had done several times: a fire was made in the pavilion, artfully made explanatory boards, which had just been renovated, were sprayed on. The countless glass splinters of broken beer bottles finally had to be laboriously sifted out of the sand. "If that happens on a Saturday night, we have to clear it up practically immediately," reports the forest manager, "otherwise we would have to close the area on Sunday, when visitors even come from far away."If this happens more often, at some point the visitors stayed away - a disaster for the elaborately designed forest adventure trail. Fuchs: “It is an unparalleled grievance. Everyone can have a beer there. As long as he takes his rubbish with him and doesn't break anything, everything is okay. ”But the vandalism of the past few weeks is no longer tolerable. Only: "Doing something here prophylactically is very difficult".

The forest is recovering from drought stress
The forest is there better for this than it has been for a long time. The rain this year - more than 130 liters since May 20 alone - was "a real blessing," reports Fuchs. They also had a "giant fuss" that the damaging heavy rain events such as the flood of Landshut had passed Freising several times. Instead, there were always abundant pourings. The soil's water reservoirs are therefore well filled, and trees no longer suffer from drought stress. However, it will take some time for the trees to recover. Beeches or oaks, for example, could still look sparser two or three years after long periods of drought. The fine roots of the trees, which died during the drought, only regenerated slowly. Narrow annual rings are also an indication of dry years, documented the small growth in wood. It is to be expected that there will be a big annual ring again this year. “Overall,” says Fuchs, “the forest is in a very favorable condition”.
The bark beetle is under control
It is bursting with strength, which the bark beetle can also feel.
There is hardly any infestation in the area - the result of damp weather and consistent control in recent years.
“If the tree is fresh in the sap,” says Fuchs, “it is better able to ward off attacks.
Then the first beetles that come are encased in the bark ”.
