“Lehards light” in Dietramszell: A contemplative field fair instead of a splendid event

The Dietramszeller Lehards on the third Sunday in July is actually a splendid event.

This time it was much quieter - due to the corona.

- Officially, the Leonhardifahrt was of course canceled due to the corona - like so many other traditional events. Therefore, the Dietramszeller limited themselves to a field fair next to the pilgrimage church this year. “If you want to come, you should come,” head organizer and Leonhardi-Lader Hans Kanzler announced in advance. And an extremely large number of believers proved on Saturday morning in cold, wet weather that customs and church tradition are more important to them than the secular part of the largest Dietramszell holiday of the year:

Well over 200 visitors as well as 15 carriages and carriages along with other individual riders were counted as “Zeller Lehards light 2021” at the field fair on Saturday.

Perhaps this was also due to the fact that new priest Georg Böckl-Bichler, who is known to come from the Erlach district, celebrated the knife.

He also donated his primary blessing to the believers in the church after the service - albeit as a result of the uninviting weather - on request.

In his sermon, the priest referred to his carefree childhood days at home - “after all, I went to school in Dietramszell for five years”.

Many of his memories are also linked to the Leonhardi rides.

Böckl-Bichler also mentioned that many of his fellow priests who had recently visited him for his primary mass in Erlach and Steingau were amazed at "how beautiful it is in my home in the Bavarian Oberland".

In memory of his primacy, the new priest presented Dean Thomas Neuberger with a special gift from the parish association: a gold-plated silver oil vessel for anointing the sick.

At the end of the service there was “a lot of blessings”, as Böckl-Bichler put it: namely the blessing for the horses and their supervisors, for the stable boards they had brought with them and finally the primacy blessing. While the festively dressed up carriages and carriages then rounded the Dietramszell pilgrimage church, Father Bimo, equipped with a large holy water kettle, donated the traditional Zeller Leonhardi blessing to the participants. Hans Kanzler stated with satisfaction: “Such a Lehard is also beautiful. Quiet and harmonious, without any hype or fair. ”He was also pleased about the lively interest of the people:“ The enormous encouragement from the believers also surprised me a little. ”
