The governments of Latin America are asking their residents not to lower their guard against the spread of covid-19.

And, although vaccination campaigns are advancing in the region, the rates of new cases and deaths from coronavirus continue to increase, in the face of the high transmissibility of new variants such as B.1.617.2, or delta.

This is how the week begins in some of the countries most affected by the pandemic in Latin America.

The country has received more than 59.3 million doses of vaccines from various pharmaceutical companies: Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, CanSino Biologics and Johnson & Johnson.

As of Thursday, more than 37.3 million people had received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Colombia

As of Saturday, Colombia had applied more than 23.4 million vaccines against covid-19.

More than 8.5 million people have already received the two doses and more than 1.7 million have received the single-dose vaccine, for a total of 10.2 million people with the complete vaccination scheme, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

On Sunday, the ministry reported more than 18,000 new cases of covid-19 and 476 deaths.

When you receive the 1st or 2nd dose of vaccines against COVID-19, keep in mind that the body needs some time to produce the antibodies, which effectively fight the virus.

So if you've already had your 1st or 2nd dose, don't let your guard down!
