Nuremberg - More than 300 people appeared in Nuremberg on Sunday (July 18) for a rally under the motto "Save the Reichswald".

Among other things, the activists wanted to send a signal against clearing, industrial areas, road construction and the planned ICE plant.

As the Bund Naturschutz Bayern ev (BN) writes in a message, the great popularity of the participants gives the BN and the numerous citizens' initiatives the right.

"The Reichswald is the air conditioning system for cities," says Prof. Dr.

Hubert Weiger, former BN and BUND federal chairman.

Nuremberg: Protest rally to save the Reichswald - "Climate protection must be tackled"

Every summer, the BN celebrates the so-called Reichswaldfest to celebrate the forest in the Nuremberg region. Like last year, the festival has to be canceled in 2021 due to the Corona * pandemic. “As in the 1970s, we are holding a pure protest rally with the same slogan 'Save the Reichswald'. After all, the planned clearing is just as huge again as it was back when the forest was not even protected as a protected forest, ”says Richard Mergner, state chairman of the BN. “Climate protection must now finally be tackled as a priority.” Over 300 people came to the rally on Sunday (July 18).

The participants of the rally came to the rally in the oak grove of the Nuremberg Schmausenbuck on six bike rides, a guided hike, by tram and on foot.

“Baulöwen” and “Verkehrsplaner” would “tear out” more and more pieces from the Reichswald.

"But the forest is not available for planning of any kind. It is our most important ally in the fight against the climate crisis," the BN complains on Facebook.

He is the “green lung” of the metropolitan region.

BN rejects the placement of the ICE plant in Reichswald - but: "We need the traffic turnaround"

The BN supports the goals of the railway to double the number of passengers in long-distance traffic and to take away parts of the climate-damaging road traffic, as it says in a message.

However, the decision on the location of the new ICE plant was decidedly rejected.

The BN therefore demands that Deutsche Bahn significantly reduce its planning.

The Muna Feucht is not a good choice because like the other locations it belongs to the European bird sanctuary.

The European protected yellow-bellied toad, red-backed killer, hawks, ravens, tree pipits and numerous endangered bats have their home there.
