Information that we hope will be useful to take care of your health and that of your family.

Questions about the covid-19 vaccine

@drhuerta My very dear Dr. I am 45 years old and I had a flu vaccine.

How many days does it take to get vaccinated against covid?

Taking into account that they are already vaccinating my age with Pfizer vaccines in the city of Lima.

Thank you very much for your reply.

- Leonel (@ Leonel21630597) July 18, 2021

Hi, Leonel.

In general, it is recommended that two weeks should elapse between any type of vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine.

@drhuerta just this Thursday I applied my first (modern) dose đŸ™ŒđŸ»đŸ’‰ what makes me curious is the date for the second dose, it will be in two weeks.

I have read that you have to wait almost 4 weeks for a second dose but that information is still not clear to me.

What is recommended?

- Fer (@ mafer95 ___) July 18, 2021

Good question, Fer.

What the manufacturer recommends is four weeks or 28 days between the first and second doses.

@drhuerta Why have the Sinovac (lab. Coronavac) and Sputnik V vaccines not been used in Europe?

- Claudio VillalĂłn Contreras (@claudioicontrer) July 17, 2021

Excellent question, Claudio.

A vaccine manufacturer must request a use authorization from regulatory entities, in this case the European Medicines Agency, or the FDA in the United States.

It is therefore possible that the manufacturers of the CoronaVac vaccine did not request such authorization for use.

The Sputnik V vaccine is under review by the European Medicines Agency.

Hello Dr. It will be possible and safe after receiving a dose of AstraZeneca and a booster from Pfizer (4 weeks later), to complete the cycle of Pfizer with the second vaccine (4 weeks later) That is, One dose of AstraZeneca and two Pfizer.

This to complete at least one of the cycles.

- Luis Herrera (@ LuisHer67938567) July 17, 2021

Hi Luis.

You no longer need to receive the second dose of Pfizer.

With the two doses you received (one from AstraZeneca and one from Pfizer) you are already protected.

@drhuerta I traveled to the US and I only took the 1st dose of Pfizer.

I have returned to Peru, when the schedule arrives, will I have any adverse effect if I take the 2 doses at their established times despite having taken a dose at least 1 month before in the US?

- Aldo Laban (@AldoLaban) July 17, 2021

Hi, Aldo.

It is recommended that you only receive one more dose, which will give you complete protection.

A third dose is not recommended.

@drhuerta good night.

On June 5 they gave me the first dose of AstraZeneca.

How long after can I get the Pfizer vaccine?

I take into account your comments on the effective mix of vaccines.

Thanks

- iBrujaFelina (@iBrujaFelina) July 17, 2021

Hi Ibruja, good question.

You are correct, those vaccines can be combined, and the second dose should be given at four weeks or 28 days.

Good! It would be possible, for example, after I have received three doses of the Cuban vaccine (Abbdala) and at 6 months or a year to receive, for example, AstraZeneca, Pifer or another!

My question is not whether it is necessary or not!

It is if it can be possible without causing me health problems.

- Rey ©  đŸ“Č (@ Reynaldo8509) July 12, 2021

Hi King.

The interval for receiving a second type of vaccine after completing a first type is not yet known.

We will have to wait for studies, which must leave at the end of the year.

@drhuerta if I got vaccinated at the end of May with Janssen and in my city people my age are about to be vaccinated, is it advisable to apply the vaccine again?

- EDGAR MANUEL (@ emgg25) July 12, 2021

Hi Edgar.

The Janssen / Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a single dose and has recently been shown to be effective against the delta variant and to prevent severe illness and death from COVID-19.

No extra dose is recommended.

Can I get vaccinated with doses from different laboratories?

Questions about medications and the vaccine

@drhuerta hello doctor I read one of your tweets there and I wanted to ask you a question, I was vaccinated on Thursday and on Saturday I have taken phenazopyridine, could this cause any interference with the vaccine?

Good morning and thank you very much: ')

- Wen Moreno (@ poletmoreno2) July 17, 2021

Hi, Wen.

There is no problem with you taking that drug.

With the exception of immunosuppressive medications, people should continue to use any type of medication, before or after their vaccination.

@drhuerta hello, I just got the second dose of pfizer, can I take a pill or half of viagra ???

- manuelinho (@ManueMjmr) July 17, 2021

Hello, Manuelinho.

Of course, there is no problem with you being able to take viagra before or after the covid-19 vaccine.

In general, with the exception of immunosuppressive medications, people should continue to use their medications.

Dear @drhuerta: Thank you very much for your excellent podcast.

I understand that taking immunosuppressants reduces the generation of antibodies.

Should patients taking sulfasalazine have a booster after the second dose of Pfizer?

How long after?

- Andrés F. Contreras S. (@AFCSPhil) July 12, 2021

Hello Andres.

The use of a third dose of vaccine is not yet decided.

It is very possible that - as Israel has already provided - immunosuppressed people are the first candidates to receive it, so we will have to wait for the decision of the regulatory entities of each country.

@drhuerta, can I get vaccinated against covid if I'm taking antibiotics?

- Luisg.lopez (@ Luisglopez17) July 13, 2021

Hi Luis.

Of course, there is no problem.

With the exception of immunosuppressive medications, people should continue to use any type of medication, before or after their vaccination.

Can you have sex after getting the vaccine?

Questions about pre-existing conditions and vaccination against covid-19

@drhuerta I am not vaccinated with Covid because it is an atypical pneumonia, 40 years ago I had atypical pneumonia and the doctor who treated me told me that I was vaccinated for life.

- Ezequiel Lucas Perez (@ezlupesa) July 17, 2021

Dear Ezequiel, be careful, that is not true.

Atypical pneumonias have many causes, but they do not include that caused by covid-19.

Your immunity may only be to the bacteria or virus that caused pneumonia 40 years ago.

Please get vaccinated as soon as possible.

@drhuerta very good evening doc 😉 I need your professional opinion⚡ this week I have the vaccine for covid 19 I have the aztra one! I have only one kidney since birth they removed it from me because of a tumor! I live normal I am healthy I am 37 years old! do you recommend vaccinating ?? greetings⚡✌😎

- Julio Cesar HG⚡ El Rayo ⚡ (@ juliorayo1983) July 12, 2021

Hi Julio.

Absolutely yes, please get vaccinated, there will be no problem.

On the contrary, I think you should do it, because remember that SARS-COV2 is capable of complicating the kidneys, and you must protect the only one you have.

@drhuerta my 11-month-old baby had covid 1 month ago he had his 2nd influenza vaccine, can he get vaccinated?

Will it have any contraindication?

I urgently need an answer as I hear no and another yes from some doctors.

- Fernando Auris (@fernandoauris) July 12, 2021

Hello Fernando.

In general, there is no contraindication for a person who had COVID-19, including a child, to receive some other type of vaccine.

On the contrary, it is recommended.

@drhuerta good evening Dr. if I had a total knee implant and they applied anticoagulants for 21 days at the moment I already have 36 days after the operation.

I can already apply the second dose.

Because on May 21 they applied the first dose to me. I appreciate your response

- roberto landires (@robertolandires) July 13, 2021

Hi Roberto, of course you do, there is no problem with you receiving your second pending dose.

Remember that even people who are receiving blood thinners can get vaccinated.

Questions about contagions and immunity

@CNNEE @drhuerta are those vaccinated against covid still contagious if they contract the virus?

- Annie_lu (@AnaLuciAvalos) July 17, 2021

Excellent question, Annie.

In the absence of 100% effective vaccines (or medications), it is possible that some fully vaccinated people can become infected, and even develop covid-19.

Fortunately, it was found in a recent study that its ability to spread is low.

But what does it say about people in the US who are already without a mask.

They are not forced to use it and are leading a normal life to say the least.

Please give an explanation.

- Ros123 (@ Ros12320) July 17, 2021

Very good question, Ros.

As the director of the CDC explained when lifting that provision, it is due to a combination of two factors: the high vaccination coverage in the population and the low prevalence of the virus in the communities.

The point is that, according to what the official said, these measures should be periodically reassessed, so some states such as California have recently decided to reinstate the use of masks due to the increase in the delta variant.

Doctor

If a vaccinated person gets COVID, does his immunity increase and / or does it last longer?

- Cuestismo (@cuestismo) July 17, 2021

Excellent question, Question.

What the virus causes in a vaccinated person is to stimulate the defense system to fight - let's say - the virus.

That is the explanation why, almost always, the infection in a fully vaccinated person is mild.

What is not known is how durable it will be.

@drhuerta Dear Dr. Is it possible to re-infected with COVID so I got vaccinated there?

- Guillermo Carbonell (@ gscj2002) July 16, 2021

Hello Guillermo.

Of course, it can occur, although it is difficult to recognize all cases, as it is likely that asymptomatic cases are not recognized.

On the other hand, people who are reinfected after being vaccinated are not very contagious of the virus.

How do I know if I received the vaccine and not a placebo?

6:04

Other questions about the coronavirus

And there are cases of completely vaccinated dead?

- The blocked cat (@el_mal_menor) July 17, 2021

Hello, The Cat.

Yes, unfortunately that is true, but it is, happily, very rare, and that protection that vaccines give against serious disease and death is the main reason to get vaccinated.

As we saw in the May 27 episode, the CDC reported that between January 1 and April 30, 2020, 101 million people were vaccinated in the United States and in them, there were 10,262 cases of covid-19, of which 27% were asymptomatic, 10% were hospitalized, and 160, or 2%, died.

The median age of the patients who died was 82 years.

Remember that there is no 100% effective vaccine (or medicine).

Hello @Drhuerta I want to ask you a very simple question, my partner and I are vaccinated with the pifez vaccine or whatever it is called and we want to know if we can kiss or I don't know and if we can lick our part without congaining, sorry for the uncomfortable question

- Okami0w0 (@ okami0w0) July 17, 2021

Hi Okami.

Of course, if you are both protected, you can lead your normal life, which includes your sex life.

On the other hand, I tell you that this is not an awkward question.

Sexuality is an important component of human well-being, and I thank you for asking such an important question.

@drhuerta Dr. On 05-29-21 I came out positive in my covid test, I started taking my treatment on 05-30-21 and finished it on 06-10-21 (the antibiotic cycle since it was a moderate covid) the question is how many days do I have to wait for my test to come back negative?

- Val (@valenciano_val) July 17, 2021

Hi Val.

Testing for viruses or antibodies to find out if the disease has passed is not recommended.

Only the clinical discharge is enough, that is, the medical evaluation.
