Will Vincent Fichot ever see his children again? Since July 10, this 39-year-old Frenchman has been on a hunger strike in the middle of Tokyo, near the Olympic stadium. He has been deprived of contact with his 7 and 4-year-old son and daughter since his wife, alleging domestic violence (which he categorically denies), kidnapped them on August 10, 2018. He only sees this desperate gesture, synchronized with the attention generated by the Olympic Games, to find a solution. Emmanuel Macron is expected on Friday at the opening ceremony of the Games, a few hundred meters from his bivouac. Vincent Fichot had met him in 2019 in Tokyo; the president subsequently raised the case with Shinzo Abe, then prime minister. But his situation has worsened since then: despite the kidnapping of the children and without even commenting on the alleged violence,a judge appointed his wife as custodian of the children (both retain parental authority).
