The mechanisms of the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forest in the western Hama countryside are currently implementing the works of isolating irrigation channels and water drains to improve their course, remove obstacles in their way, and ensure that water reaches all beneficiary agricultural areas, in addition to preparing the canals to be ready to receive the largest possible amount of rainwater in the upcoming winter season.
The director of transport in the authority, Engineer Iyad Sarhan, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that there are five early adopters working to isolate banks and open a hollow to water the farmers’ lands, suggesting that the work will be completed by the end of this month, noting that the aim of this process is to help the farmer in watering at the lowest cost.
For his part, Engineer Ghiath Saqr, director of heavy machinery in the authority, explained that the main and subsidiary water channels and drains in the Al-Ghab area are removed and opened annually by early adopters and heavy machinery to deliver water to the farthest possible extent to feed the farmers’ lands that are in dire need of it due to the high costs and expenses of irrigating crops.
For his part, the head of the Agricultural Association, Najm Muhammad Ibrahim, pointed out the importance of isolating the banks in summer and winter, because of this work of great return that benefits the farmers. In the summer, the farmers benefit from irrigating their crops, and in the winter they drain rainwater and prevent their agricultural lands from being flooded, noting the authority’s response and speedy completion of work Isolating the banks for the benefit of the peasants.
In turn, Hassan Mahfoud, Director of Irrigation at the Al-Ghab Development Authority, reviewed, in a similar statement, the work plan to isolate drains and concrete irrigation canals, indicating that the plan for this year includes isolating 300 km, of which more than 200 km have been completed so far, with priority in isolating drains used for irrigation to secure an optimal harvest. For water flowing from springs.
In parallel, a large group of dams were implemented at the ends of the drains and on the main drain to secure a greater harvest of water and prevent wasting any water point. 150 watering holes were included in the isolation plan, most of which are spread in the Al-Tar area to benefit from them in irrigation.
