The center has notified the involved merchants and ordered them to stop selling and remove the affected batches of products.

Relevant retailers are also carrying out recalls according to the centre's instructions.

The spokesman reminded that malachite green is an industrial dye and all food sold in Hong Kong must not contain malachite green.

Offenders will be prosecuted, and upon conviction, they can be fined 50,000 yuan and imprisoned for 6 months.


The retailer Millennium Hong Kong Food Service Limited stated on its FB page that it sells oysters that claim to be direct flights from France to Hong Kong, but its FB page does not publish other food-related information.

The net weight of the raw fish sample is about 600 to 700 grams. The source is China, and the package states "Best before this date on June 25 this year."

Checking the online information, the retailer Millennium Hong Kong Food Service Limited (Marriott Hong Kong Food Service Limited) also sells oysters that claim to be direct flights from France to Hong Kong, but its FB page does not publish other food-related information.

A spokesman for the centre said that the centre has taken the above-mentioned raw fish samples from an online store for testing through the regular food monitoring programme.

The results showed that the sample contained malachite green at a content of 2.02 parts per billion.

The spokesperson said that the center has notified the merchants involved in the above-mentioned violations and ordered them to stop selling and remove the affected batches of products.

The retailers concerned are also carrying out recalls in accordance with the instructions of the centre.

The public can call the retailer's hotline 2430 1119 during office hours to inquire about the recall of the above products.

The center is also tracing the source and distribution of the relevant products.

Malachite green is an industrial dye used to treat fish diseases.

At present, many countries have banned the use of malachite green in food animals.

According to the "Hazardous Substances in Food Regulations" (Chapter 132AF), all food sold in Hong Kong must not contain malachite green.
