- The first shock about being named as a possible nuclear waste repository has subsided in the six municipalities of the north-eastern district of Freising. From Wang to Rudelzhausen, the municipalities are now ready to resist and have now invited Martin Behringer as an expert. Mayor complains about "political decision"
Martin Behringer also expressed sharp criticism of the decision that large parts of Bavaria and Germany are possible zones for a repository, but the Gorleben area (Lower Saxony), which has been investigated for decades, is not included.
All other places would have to be compared with Gorleben.
"But that was a political decision," complained the Lower Bavarian FW mayor.
“I can't prove it, but that's my opinion.” He was convinced that at the end of the procedure, which ends with the determination of the location by 2031, a political and not an objective decision will be made.
Search for a repository for nuclear waste: Mauern's local chief announces resistance
The speaker repeatedly referred to the repository that has already been built in Finland: “It's like a city of its own there, almost a small world of its own.” In Finland, however, municipalities applied and the chosen municipality received a lot of money.
Martin Behringer would not take a repository for any money in the world.
Mauern's mayor Georg Krojer demanded: "If you don't move, you've already lost." You have to vehemently oppose a warehouse with 27,000 square meters for highly radioactive waste and more than 600,000 square meters for low and medium-level radioactive waste.
Krojer sees the settlement pressure in the Munich area as a plus point: "We have to find the best location in Germany, but this is definitely the worst."
