Reconstruction plans for neuralgic crossing

Graefelfing -

Where Pasinger Straße (St 2063), Lochhamer Straße and Kleinhaderner Weg intersect, it is hectic - and narrow, especially at peak times. Motorized traffic sometimes has to cope with backlogs up to the cemetery, cyclists live dangerously thanks to the lack of dedicated areas and paths, pedestrians have to use the uncomfortable and uninviting underpass at night.

At least for the last two groups, the crossing area should become safer, according to the Obermeyer office. The investigation, the results of which have already been coordinated with the District Office and the Freising State Building Authority, resulted in the following conversion recommendation: The right-turn lanes coming from Lochhamer Strasse and Kleinhaderner Weg will be resolved; turning takes place from common lanes at right angles.

For cyclists there should be a crossing with traffic lights in front of the traffic lights in the north, as well as for pedestrians in the south of the intersection. Lochhamer Straße will also have a pedestrian and bicycle crossing in front of the traffic lights, as will Kleinhaderner Weg. They are set back to create a space for cyclists to stand in front of the waiting cars. Cyclists from the south have to share a common path with pedestrians in front of the crossing area. Further cycle paths on the state road are not planned. The total costs should amount to 700,000 euros.

The investigation by the traffic planners showed that the redistribution of area and traffic light times from motorized traffic to cyclists and pedestrians is associated with a reduction in the efficiency of the intersection (from level C to D).

However, this classification is sufficient to keep the intersection functional.

Mayor Peter Köstler emphasized in the meeting of the Committee for Environment, Energy and Mobility: "We experience problems and hazards every day at this intersection." It takes a comprehensive redesign to do justice to all road users.

Köstler: "This makes the intersection safer, but not more efficient."

Some local councils saw it much more negatively.

Jörg Scholler (FDP) said: “This will not work with the expected increase in traffic on Lochhamer Straße.” Florian Ernstberger (BVGL) also predicted longer traffic jams in Lochhamer Straße and towards the cemetery.

Anette Kitzmann-Waterloo (SPD) feared: “We are provoking traffic jams and thus pressure for a bypass road.” Petra Schmid (CSU) saw the plans as a “traffic education measure”, which she defends against.

Martin Feldner (Greens), on the other hand, saw an "increase in performance" because the cyclists were now guided separately.

In the end, all local councils agreed to deepen the plans.
