The announcement issued today (Monday) by Ben & Jerry's that it will not sell its products in the settlements has led to harsh reactions and even calls for a boycott of the global company Unilever, the corporation that owns the ice cream maker. "Ben & Jerry's decision is a shameful surrender to anti-Semitism, to BDS, to everything that is wrong in the anti-Israel and anti-Jewish discourse. We will not keep quiet about them," Foreign Minister Yair Lapid wrote on Twitter.
According to the Israeli franchisee, Ben & Jerrys has received approval for the move from global Unilever. But Unilever also owns other prominent Israeli brands: Strauss Ice Cream and all of Thelma's products, which it sells in the Israeli market. As well as bagel products the bagel, blue band and more as well as pampering and dove care products.
"More than thirty states in the United States have BDS submission laws passed in recent years. I am going to go one by one and demand that they enforce these laws against Ben & Jerrys because they will not treat us in this way without encountering a response," Lapid added.

Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked responded on Twitter to the company's announcement: "And your ice cream is not in line with our taste. We will manage without you." Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman also commented on Facebook and wrote that "even in ice creams, they are as strict as Tel Aviv. I have already ordered another ice cream, not boycotting and more delicious."
Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on Twitter that "now we Israelis know which ice cream not to buy." MK Ofir Akunis (Likud) said: "we will stop to buy ice cream Ben & Jerry's in Israel, Judea and Samaria - and everywhere else in the world."
Yesha Council responded that "Unfortunately, the ice cream company decided to boycott West Bank "And the Jordan Valley and as a result cause the dismissal of hundreds of Israeli workers in the south. There is no need to purchase products from companies that boycott hundreds of thousands of citizens of the State of Israel, because of where they chose to live."
In contrast, Balad chairman Sami Abu Shehadeh welcomed the company's announcement on Twitter.
"We welcome Ben & Jerry's principled position and urge all companies to contribute to justice and peace by acting in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Rights: Protection, Respect and Correction."

Earlier, Ben & Jerry's announced that it would not sell its products in the settlements.
"We believe it is inconsistent with our values to sell Ben & Jerry's ice cream in the Occupied Palestinian Territories," they said in a statement.
The company said in a statement that the license of their Israeli franchise, which expires at the end of next year and that allows ice cream to be marketed in the settlements as well, will not be renewed.
The announcement states that the marketing of ice cream in Israel will continue in a new arrangement that will be formulated.
