While the Turkish occupation and its terrorist mercenaries continue their criminal practices against the people of Al-Hasakah city and follow the policy of thirsting and depriving the residents of water, UN officials launched an urgent call to put an end to the obstacles and practices that stop the flow of water from the Alouk station in the northern countryside of Al-Hasakah and threaten to expose about one million people to thirst.

On the 26th of last month, the station stopped working completely as a result of the attacks of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries from terrorist organizations and the “SDF” militia linked to the American occupation on the tension lines that transmit electricity to the station and stopping the pumps inside it from working, which threatens to deprive more than a million citizens of water in Al-Hasakah city and its countryside.

A joint statement published on the United Nations website issued by Omran Reda, the Resident Coordinator for United Nations and Humanitarian Affairs in Syria, Muhannad Hadi, the Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Crisis in Syria, and Ted Chaiban, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, stated that “water stations are civilian infrastructure that must be Protect it at all times,” calling for “the continuous obstruction of the work of the vital Allouk water station in northeastern Syria to stop.”

They also urged “immediately” to provide safe passage for regular and unhindered access of humanitarian technical staff so that the Allouk water plant can be operated without additional interruptions.

Amid the outbreak of the Corona pandemic around the world, the statement stressed that “sufficient and continuous access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene is the first line of defense to stop the spread of the pandemic.”

Syria had confirmed in a statement on the 27th of last month that the Turkish occupation forces had again repeated their crime of cutting off the water from the Allouk station for the twenty-fifth time, and that the Turkish government had not heeded the calls of the international community and the suffering of the residents of Al-Hasakah Governorate, who are now facing more thirst than ever before Criminal behavior amounting to a crime against humanity and a war crime by violating all international conventions, conventions and human rights instruments.
