ZDF has been broadcasting its news from a digital studio since 2009.

Now design and technology are being modernized.

The audience can be excited.

Mainz - For many people in Germany, 7 p.m. is news time: Then the main edition of the “heute” news program on ZDF flickers on the TV screen.

Since it was first broadcast on April 1, 1963, its appearance has changed several times.

The last big change was on July 17, 2009, since then the ZDF news programs have been produced in a virtual studio.

On Monday (July 19) there will be another modernization - which will be accompanied by a visible design change.

The first 7 pm edition in the new design will be moderated this evening by Barbara Hahlweg, the first new “heute-journal” by Christian Sievers.

The most striking innovation is that the countdown to the 19 o'clock broadcast is displayed with a digital clock instead of a pointer clock.

In the new opening credits you can see first a map of Germany, then a map of Europe and finally a map of the world in line hatching.

Important ZDF locations and studio cities are marked there.

The opening credits of the “heute-Journal” at 9:45 pm are dominated by a globe instead of a flat world map.

ZDF news gets a new design: the later the broadcast, the darker the blue

In addition, the music has been revised, whereby the basic theme remains.

The ZDF also sticks to blue as the defining color of the programs.

But the later the program is broadcast, the darker the sound.

And for all programs there is new rubric information, for "Weather" icons and temperature information have been modernized.

There are also some changes in the studio itself.

The most striking thing is that the curved, three-winged table with the tabletops reaching down to the floor has been replaced by a significantly smaller L-shaped table.

Thanks to the rail system, a new camera robot offers more options for tracking shots during the broadcast.

ZDF news gets a new design: All news formats are moving closer together

With the new look, ZDF wants to ensure that its news families are recognizable.

Color world, graphics and design elements combine all formats.

This includes

  • 7 pm- "today"

  • "Today journal" "today journal update"

  • "Today Xpress"

  • "Today - in Germany"

  • "Today - in Europe"

  • "Weather"

  • "logo!"

Innovations at ZDF: Public broadcasters want to merge media libraries

At ZDF, the revised design of the news programs is not the only news.

The broadcaster wants to do common cause with ARD, the online streaming offers are to be merged.

Over 250,000 titles will then be available.

There will also be changes in personnel in the near future.

Claus Kleber is leaving ZDF at the end of the year.

The “heute journal” presenter worked for the station for almost 20 years.
