It was significantly different than in previous years, but at least: The successful high school graduates from the Gabriel-von-Seidl-Gymnasium in Bad Tölz could be honored at a celebration in the gym.

- The school band “Gabs On Fire” opened the party with the song “Time of your life” by Green Day and ensured the best atmosphere with suitable music in the further course of the afternoon. The graduates, said senior school coordinator Stefanie Regus, in her welcoming speech, had two turbulent years. And also "it will have happened to one or the other parent that he graduated from high school again in 2021". Regus paid great respect to the young adults: "You all grew in this time and learned a lot."

Out of 111 students, 108 passed, listed director Alexander Göbel.

The overall average of 2.27 is even four hundredths better than 2020. 31 students have a one before the decimal point, 15 graduates achieved a grade of 1.5 or better, and two high school graduates got the dream grade of 1.0.

(Editor's note: For data protection reasons, the school does not name any names for publication.) The key point in Göbel's speech was the fairy tale about a poor farmer who owns a special horse.

The story had Daoist traits, it was about luck or bad luck - depending on the perspective from which you look at things.

The headmaster wished the graduates that they could always listen to the correct inner voice - and correct was also a question of perspective.

Memories of first choir class concerts

Before that, a short film by the fifth graders as well as memories from Clara Farias Rocha and Theresa Huss of the early days of the choir class had caused amusement, but also sadness. Magnus Singer thanked “everyone who helped us” on behalf of the high school graduates.

What the students had experienced and, above all, been through in the past two years could be heard again and again in the various speeches.

For the school system, which is used to rules and plans, there was none of this in the Corona period, instead, great flexibility was required from everyone, said District Administrator Josef Niedermaier.

“It wasn't easy for you.

But you did a great job, ”said Niedermaier.

In the future, too, one will have to live with dealing with rapid changes.

He advised the students: "Take this tingling sensation away, take this gut feeling with you."

Thoughtful words from the chairman of the parent council

The words of the parents' council Stefan Riedl were thoughtful. It was very difficult for him to find appropriate words for this special vintage, confessed Riedl. In his speech, given very personally, there was also criticism to be heard. In a survey, 90 percent of students said that the quality of online teaching depends heavily on the teacher. "Some teachers have managed to lead the students through this crisis very well." There was brief applause when Riedl said that he did not want to give an assessment of the crisis management by the Ministry of Education. The Abitur 2021 has “something difficult” this year, and it “feels so wasted”. Then he turned to the graduates: “But you have learned to deal with difficult situations. You know the value of communityfor you have come to know the lack of fellowship. No one graduated from high school under more difficult conditions than you ”- afterwards there was great applause.
