The public prosecutor's office notified Mr. Di Marzio of the extradition request and the European arrest warrant

" issued by Italy against him, then the former far-left activist was placed under judicial control, a this source clarified.

Maurizio Di Marzio has in particular the prohibition to leave metropolitan France and the obligation to "

hand over his identity documents and to check in twice a month at the police station

", added this source.

The warrant against him must once again be notified to him on Wednesday during a brief public hearing.

Already stopped in 1994

The former brigadist, whose validity of the arrest warrant expired on May 10, fled before the crackdown at the end of April against nine other former far-left activists claimed by Italy. He was no longer actively wanted by the French authorities, sources familiar with the matter told AFP in June. But on July 8, the Rome Court of Appeal ruled that the warrant was ultimately not prescribed, a decision deemed "

opportunistic

" by his lawyer and against which he appealed.

All these former activists, who have rebuilt their lives in France, are claimed by Rome to have been condemned for their involvement, which many contest, in the attacks committed in their country during the years 1970-80, nicknamed "

the years of lead

" .

Maurizio Di Marzio is targeted by the execution of the remainder - five years and nine months - of a 14-year prison sentence, in particular for his role in the attempted kidnapping in 1982 of a vice-prefect of police of Rome, Nicola Simone, seriously injured in the attack.

Arrived in France in the early 1990s, after serving six years in prison in this case, he had already been arrested in 1994, but the extradition procedure was interrupted.

The court of appeal is due to render its decision on September 29 on the validity of the extradition requests of the nine activists arrested in April - seven men and two women aged 63 to 77 - then released under judicial supervision.

Everyone opposed it.
