Ansbach - After the heavy flooding in some regions of Central Franconia, the Ansbach Water Management Office is now warning of fish deaths.

The flood left its mark on the Neustadt an der Aisch * and Ansbach regions in particular.

There the water has flooded large agricultural areas, fields and meadows.

The water now slowly seeps through the soil back into the rivers, causing a lack of oxygen there.

Large amounts of nutrients and river sediments were washed out of the rivers by the floods.

According to a report from the water management authority, this has led to increased oxygen consumption.

Oxygen production by aquatic plants and algae is currently only very limited due to the cloudiness.

Due to this lack of oxygen in the rivers, "fish deaths have occurred and may continue for a certain period of time," the report said.

The degradation of the organic material can also be seen through an oil-like film on the water surface of the rivers.

As a result, noticeable odor nuisance had to be expected temporarily.
