Lebanese President General Michel Aoun called for continuing work to eradicate terrorism in the region, expressing his country's solidarity and standing with Iraq and its people after the terrorist attack that took place yesterday in a popular market in eastern Baghdad.
In a letter to both Iraqi President Barham Salih and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, who condemned the terrorist bombing, Aoun said that terrorism is trying to eliminate the identities of Arab countries, their values, and the principles on which they were founded, and which do not meet in any part with the principles of terrorists and the foundations they adopt in their attacks.
Aoun stressed that "the work to eradicate terrorism from its roots must continue, and efforts to achieve this goal should not be relied upon or reduced, no matter how stressful the health, social and economic conditions are."
Yesterday, a terrorist detonated an explosive device targeting a popular market in Sadr City, east of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, killing 27 people, including a child, and wounding 45 others.
