China on Monday strongly criticized the United States for fabricating accusations that Beijing was behind a large-scale cyber attack targeting Microsoft.
In a statement carried by AFP, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said, "The United States mobilized its allies to make unreasonable accusations to China related to the issue of cyber security in a move that was fabricated from scratch ... and driven by completely political purposes."
Zhao stressed that these accusations are "baseless," noting that Washington is the "world champion in malicious cyber attacks."
The United States, the European Union, Britain, NATO, Japan, Canada, Australia and New Zealand launched a coordinated and simultaneous campaign yesterday, accusing China of being behind the large-scale hacking that targeted in March the Microsoft Exchange messaging services of the American group.
