Doctors from Ulm confirm: Anyone who survives an infection is far from healthy.

Ulm - As part of a research project at the University Clinic in Ulm, numerous doctors are investigating the long-term consequences of an infection with the coronavirus. Among other things, a consultation hour was set up for those affected. According to the supervising physician Dominik Buckert, this offer was "hugely accepted". Not only people from the Ulm area got in touch, people from the Hamburg area and Switzerland also took advantage of the consultation hours.

After the clinic initially received, 000 inquiries a week, 250 people have come to the Ulm clinic because of complaints after a Covid 19 infection.

But the doctors for internal medicine made a terrifying discovery: Around every fifth person recovering from the corona has organ damage.

80 percent of the office hours visitors feel worse after the illness than before, but according to Buckert they have not suffered any organ damage.

Senior physician Dominik Buckert: "Serious damage to the organs"

Most of the patients are between 40 and 50 years old, the youngest are 20 years old. Senior physician Buckert also knows that an above-average number of athletes have come to the consultation. This is explained by the specially trained body awareness of the athletes. As a result, they would also perceive the physical losses much more strongly than someone who does little or no sport. In addition to the typical symptoms, patients also complain of neurological complaints and shortness of breath.

Buckert basically divides his patients into three groups.

The first group are those who are simply unsure and are afraid of further consequences of the disease.

In the second group there are mostly people who moved noticeably less during the pandemic and therefore felt a loss of performance.

In the third group, according to the supervising physician, “serious damage to the organs” can be found.

Corona long-term consequences: According to doctors, results from Ulm are quite representative

However, the previous results of the Ulm research project with a focus on heart and lung damage only cover a fraction of the long-term corona consequences. Buckert therefore emphasizes how important it is to be in constant contact with other clinics. But here too: the results of the Ulm researchers match what has already been found in other clinics.
