A 44-year-old man who wanted to alert his police neighbor that they were about to rob him when he arrived with his truck at Rafael Castillo's house, was left in the middle of a shooting that took place at that time between the agent and the criminals, and died from a bullet to the head.

The incident occurred on 2400 Tres Cruces Street in that town of La Matanza, when a Federal Police sergeant was returning home aboard a gray Volkswagen Amarok pickup.

The agent was entering the vehicle at his home, dressed in civilian clothes, when he was attacked by at least three criminals with theft intentions.

At that moment, a neighbor who lives in front of the policeman's house, identified as

Martín Almirón (44)

, a mechanic by profession, came out of his home and yelled at him "watch out, they're about to rob you!"

Upon realizing the situation, the man who had arrived with the truck

identified himself as a policeman

, drew his .9mm Browning service pistol and began an exchange of fire with the criminals.

As a result of the confrontation, Almirón received an accurate shot in the forehead that caused his death instantly.

The criminals quickly escaped from the scene without specifying the robbery, which is why the security cameras and the testimony of witnesses are being analyzed to obtain their identifications.

The prosecutor Federico Medone, in charge of the La Matanza Functional Homicide Instruction Unit, ordered a series of measures by the Buenos Aires police at the scene.

At the moment it

is unknown how many shots were fired and what weapon the shot

that killed the neighbor came from and its trajectory.

The victim's body was transferred to the Lomas de Zamora judicial morgue for the corresponding autopsy.

The file was classified as "homicide on the occasion of robbery" and, so far, the prosecutor is awaiting the result of the ballistic tests to determine the steps to follow.

According to an investigator's account, Almirón had the habit of going out to defend neighbors and confront criminals in robbery situations.

He was married and had two children, a 21-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy.
