The Minister of Religious Affairs, Matan Kahana (right), presented today (Tuesday) his new plan for the Chief Rabbinate's kashrut system, according to which the kashrut system for the food business in Israel will be managed by private bodies.
"I am privatizing the world of kosher food," said Minister Kahana.
"The citizens of Israel deserve better kosher," stressed Minister Kahana. ".
According to the plan, kosher corporations that meet the halakhic criteria set by the Chief Rabbinate, as well as demonstrate economic and managerial affiliation, will be able to award kosher certificates, with only the certificates of private bodies appearing "under the supervision of the rabbinate."
The private kashrut bodies will employ and supervise kashrut supervisors, with each head of a private body, standing with a rabbi with a fitness certificate for the city rabbinate.
In addition, the bodies will publish to the public the same halakhic standard that they undertake to meet.

At the same time, a supreme supervisory body of the Chief Rabbinate will be established, which will ensure that the private bodies meet the halakhic standard they have chosen.
However, if the owner of a kosher corporation wants to provide kosher services with lighter standards than those set by the rabbinate, he can apply to three city rabbis with a fitness certificate, and obtain a certificate with the classification "with rabbinical approval."
As part of the reform, kosher corporations will be able to provide kosher food to restaurants open on Saturdays.
The Minister added: "The State of Israel's kashrut system must be significantly streamlined. The current kashrut system suffers from quality problems, various standards, poor employment conditions, problematic supervision and a large number of kashrut. The State Comptroller's reports repeatedly reveal the shortcomings of the existing kashrut system. "Kashrut will bring a huge line to the kosher community in Israel."
