The Hospital Authority stated today (20th) that it has received a notice from the Medical Council to confirm the approval of the limited practice registration applications of 8 non-locally trained doctors, of which 6 are new applications, and the other 2 are renewal applications and are in public hospitals. Assist in sharing the workload of frontline doctors.
The eight doctors will provide services in anesthesiology, cardiothoracic surgery, family medicine, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and radiology.
A spokesperson for the Hospital Authority stated that there are currently 33 non-locally trained doctors working in public hospitals with limited practising registration in departments where there is a shortage of staff, including anesthesiology, cardiothoracic surgery, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, neurosurgery, Obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, radiology and surgery to ease the workload of frontline doctors.
The recruitment of non-local trained doctors will continue, and the HA will arrange for qualified applicants to be interviewed by the relevant clinical departments.
The Hospital Authority will submit applications for limited practice registration to the Medical Council of Hong Kong for applicants who are suitable for employment according to the time they can arrive in Hong Kong to perform their duties.
The HA currently recruits non-local trained doctors as resident doctors in all specialties, and the recruitment requirements for emergency, family medicine, internal medicine and paediatrics include non-local trained doctors who have obtained the qualifications of the initial examination specialists recognized by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.
As for specialties where the loss of specialists is more severe, the HA will also recruit non-local trained doctors who have obtained specialties as associate consultants, including anesthesiology, anatomical pathology, cardiothoracic surgery, otolaryngology, obstetrics and gynecology , Ophthalmology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery.
