The flood disaster in western Germany and the flooding in parts of southern Bavaria call helpers across the country - including in Gernlinden.
Gernlinden
- The campaign started off very small and quickly exceeded the initiators' wildest expectations.
In addition to private individuals, companies took part.
One restaurant even brought food to the assembly point.
“We were really overrun,” reports Steffi Nader, one of the organizers.
Fully loaded cars had been arriving all Saturday.
The business park in Oberweg was quickly converted into a collection point.
The word of the action got around on Sunday, and more and more people came with donations in kind.

Local residents supported the helpers in unloading and sorting the donations.
Local councilor Peter Aust also lent a hand.
"He just stood there on Sunday morning and wanted to help," says Steffi Nader.
In the evening, Aust wrote on his Facebook page: "I am still overwhelmed by the immense willingness to help people here from Gernlinden and the surrounding area."
It all started modestly.
Ingolf Eichler, an employee of the Auburger company, which uses the industrial estate with three other companies, had the idea.
“He has friends there and wanted to do something,” says Steffi Nader.
So people were rounded up, the action was publicized on social networks.
"And each of us has great connections."

More and more found out about the relief operation. A container service in the immediate vicinity of the industrial park spontaneously made containers available when the storage rooms were no longer sufficient. A supermarket in Maisach donated shower gel and water, haulage companies made their trucks available, and a restaurant in Gernlinden spontaneously supplied the helpers with schnitzel. The flow of donations just didn't want to end. "Some of the people also brought new things they bought," reports Steffi Nader.
On Sunday afternoon, seven loads of pickups and trailers could already be brought north.
Semi-trailers from Gernlindner Spedition are to follow.
As Steffi Nader explains, the donations are brought to smaller camps, now also in southern Bavaria.
“We talk on the phone all the time, then the things are brought to where they are most urgently needed.” In the meantime, inquiries have also come from Austria.
The action
Due to the great response, the fundraising campaign will run until Friday, but on the back burner, as Steffi Nader says.
“Because we all have to go back to work.” If you want to donate, you should contact us via Facebook.
In the group "You come from the community of Maisach, if ..." you can find posts about the relief campaign.
