The electoral authorities of Peru announced today the victory of Pedro Castillo in the country's presidential elections.
Jorge Luis Salas, head of the Peruvian National Electoral Commission, was quoted by AFP as saying: "José Pedro Castillo Terrones was declared president of the republic after 100 percent of the votes were counted, with 50.12 percent of the votes against 49.78 percent of the votes for his 46-year-old rival Keiko Fujimori.
For her part, Fujimori said during a press conference that she held, "I will recognize the results because this is required by the law and the constitution that I swore to defend, and Castillo will take office on July 28, the day the term of interim President Francisco Sagaste ends."
