Frankfurt - Most people in Germany should still clearly see the terrible images of the rampage in Würzburg.

Three women were killed and six people were seriously injured in the bloody act.

In Frankfurt, the police have now been able to prevent an announced rampage that might have taken on much larger proportions - at least that is indicated by the many weapons that were found on the suspect.

The officers noticed him relatively easily: The man had announced the act in a letter.

Frankfurt: Announced rampage prevented - large weapon found in the suspect

A 53-year-old man from Frankfurt is accused. According to the police report, he had attracted attention earlier with confused letters that he had sent to the Hessian authorities and courts. In his most recent letter he announced that he would commit an unspecified attack on July 20. The police then intensified the search for the sender of the letters together with the public prosecutor and were finally able to locate and temporarily arrest him on Thursday, July 15, 2021, in a neglected garden area in the north of Frankfurt.

As the Frankfurt police further reported, there were only a construction trailer, several steel containers, and several derelict vehicles on the property.

During the subsequent search of the site, the officers found numerous weapons, including daggers, swords, gas and air guns, a crossbow and other items with which the announced rampage could have been carried out.

Police prevent announced rampage - suspect probably in the Reich citizen scene

The 53-year-old accused is currently in custody, writes the Frankfurt police in their press release. He is accused of preparing a serious act of violence that is dangerous to the state. In his letters, the man mainly complained about alleged injustices by government agencies and enriched the letters indiscriminately with quotations from various legal texts. According to the police, the type of letter, the content and its presentation suggest the suspicion of mental confusion. In addition, the evidence locates the accused in the vicinity of the so-called "Reich citizens and self-administrators scene". (fh)
