The FLP city council group would like a pump track system to be created on the Berghalde site - an undulating circuit for sporty cyclists with steep curves and jumping elements.

The FLP has now submitted an application to the town hall.

The course is one of several suggestions that the FLP made over a year ago.

Penzberg - cycling is trendy, but children and young people do not always want to go on the same boring tours as adults - these words were sent by the two FLP city council members Jack Eberl and Ferdinand Disl in advance of their application.

They want the city to plan and implement a pump track system on the Berghalde.

Eberl and Disl have been able to observe a “real pump track wave” nationwide since 2014.

Penzberg, they add, shouldn't ignore this trend.

A pump track is an undulating circuit for mountain bikers and BMX cyclists.

The English word is made up of “track” for route and “pumping” for pump.

What is meant by this is that the riders gain speed by pushing their bodies up in the waves and practically do not have to pedal.

FLP estimates the costs to be between 70,000 and 120,000 euros, depending on the size

The FLP explains that such a circuit is preferably built from concrete or asphalt.

A course made of earth and clay would also be possible.

However, asphalt would reduce maintenance costs and extend service life, according to the electoral association.

Eberl and Disl advertise that a pump track would be an attractive and safe outdoor sports facility that would be suitable for bicycles, skateboards, inline skates, scooters and other sports equipment on wheels and that could be used by all age groups.

Driving style, they explain, promotes balance and coordination.

The FLP estimates that the costs for planning and production are between 70,000 and 120,000 euros, depending on the size of the system and the length of the route.

At the same time, she points out that in the city's financial budget for the three years from 2021 to 2023 each 100,000 euros are planned for “making the playgrounds more attractive and redesigning the north side of the mountain heap”.

In addition, according to Eberl and Disl, there are funds that could be tapped, for example an investment package for sports facilities and the Leader program.

In the FLP application to the city council, the first step is for the administration to obtain offers for the planning and manufacture of such a system, talk to the Bavarian State Forests about a suitable area and examine funding opportunities.

The application was part of a Berghalden package

The pump track system is part of a package that the FLP had already presented in February 2020. At that time, she presented several ideas for the Penzberger Berghalde, including a slide tower with the “longest slide in Bavaria” on the slope of the ski lift and a soccer field. She spoke of an "event and leisure area". In May 2020, the building committee also voted unanimously in favor of over-planning the Berghalden area. A soccer field, a nature trail, a complete renovation of the curling lanes and the renovation of the playground on the south side were named as examples.

By the way, 30 years ago there was a similar facility for young cyclists on the Penzberger Berghalde: a BMX track. However, after a few years - due to lack of interest - it was leveled again. A separate course was also created for dirt bikers ten years ago. It is located at the Penzberg youth center behind the skater park.
