A major fire destroyed the roof of the brewery in the Rottenbuch monastery and caused consequential damage to the entire building.

Reconstruction is under way.

The Regens Wagner Foundation has the move of its schools in mind.

And the inauguration date.

Rottenbuch

- Something is happening at the Bräuhaus.

Anyone who sees the construction workers working there knows that anyway.

But this is now also clearly evident when looking at the historic building in Rottenbuch Abbey.

Because the red roof is now clearly visible, the roof structure, which was completely destroyed in a major fire in 2018, has already been restored a long way.

The work on the building of the Regens Wagner Foundation Rottenbuch is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and the vocational school for child care and the specialist academy for social education should move in by the carnival holidays at the latest.

Craftsmen and materials hard to come by

Provided everything goes according to plan in the final spurt.

Because there was already a slight delay.

"We survived the Corona period relatively well," says Achim Gerbig, general manager of Regens Wagner in Rottenbuch.

“But the shortage of building materials is putting pressure on our deadlines.” Among other things, insulation material has not yet been procured.

"And in some cases we don't get any craftsmen."

On the whole, things are still going well.

The walls are in place, most of the screed is in place, the electrical installations are largely complete.

The painter comes after the summer holidays, and tile and floor layers will soon have something to do too.

“It still looks desolate inside,” says Gerbig.

All around the Bräuhaus, the signs also point to a major construction site.

But there are the first signs that the final spurt is on the way.

Construction containers were picked up and the crane dismantled on Monday.

It is no longer required for the rest of the insulation and drywall work and for setting up the lightning protection system.

Ceremony on May 6, 2022

Instead, the facade is now covered.

“This is not an art action a la Christo,” says Gerbig with a smile.

Rather, the tarpaulins offer protection.

Because the facade will be blasted with dry ice in the coming weeks.

This is necessary because the extinguishing water caused the salts in the historic walls to move and migrate to the outside.

So-called salt efflorescence developed.

They have to be removed before the facade can be painted in late summer.

The work that begins this week can certainly get loud.

Gerbig therefore also informed the residents in advance.

The scaffolding is expected to be dismantled in late autumn, and the first paths will then be built.

“Without them, we can't put the house into operation,” says Gerbig.

And after all, he wants that as soon as possible.

Outdoor facilities should resemble a campus

But there shouldn't be any stress with the ceremony.

The date was set in such a way that everything is done by then and the chances of good weather are high: the building will be officially inaugurated on Friday, May 6, 2022, and open days are planned for the weekend afterwards.

A week later, Regens invites Wagner to alumni meetings.

The fact that the opening takes several days was deliberately chosen.

“During the fire, we saw that the building was of great public interest,” says Gerbig.

The rush of visitors is somewhat equalized with several offers.

The outdoor facilities will not be ready for the inauguration. Work on this will begin in spring or summer. The municipal council has already unanimously approved the foundation's plans. The area should be designed like a campus with a terrace, parking spaces, bike racks, green spaces and benches. Then the last piece of construction around the Bräuhaus disappears.
