Colombia: 22 arrests and 21 police officers injured, the balance of the July 20 protests

More than 53,000 police officers and 36,000 soldiers accompanied the protests in the country, where the authorities had to carry out actions to maintain order.

Defense Minister Diego Molano said that, in general, it was a peaceful day, but a police station, three commercial establishments, four government infrastructures, a monument and eight Transmilenio stations in Bogotá were affected, made by which, said the minister, they have begun the judicialization of those involved.

The general director of the Colombian Police, General Jorge Vargas, added in the report of the Ministry of Defense that the 22 arrests were made in the cities of Pasto, Cundinamarca, Bogotá, Manizales, Cali and Pereira.

The detainees were charged for the crime of someone else's property, obstruction in public roads, damage to public property, throwing dangerous substances at the police and violence against public servants.

General Vargas added that the injured soldiers did not suffer serious injuries.

So far, violent protests continue in Bogotá, in the Portal de las Américas sector, and in the city of Bucaramanga, although no new arrests or injuries have been reported.
