"Any government put in place without a broad consensus is illegitimate and will only worsen the situation,"

Me André Michel, spokesperson for the Democratic and Popular Sector, an opposition party, told AFP, specifying that he was working to

"a lasting Haitian solution to avoid chaos"

. The assassination on July 7 by an armed commando of President Jovenel Moïse further plunged Haiti into crisis, the Caribbean country being plagued by violence, poverty and corruption.

Two days before dying, Jovenel Moïse - whose authoritarian drift aroused wide rejection within the population - had appointed Ariel Henry Prime Minister.

This one unveiled Tuesday a government of which several tenors were already in place under the president with the tragic fate.

Ariel Henry benefited from the support of the “Core Group”, a group of ambassadors from different countries, including France and the United States, as well as emissaries from the Organization of American States (OAS) and the UN.

"This government does not create confidence"

For the former senator and political party leader Youri Latortue, Ariel Henry's new government is a continuation of the PHTK, the party of Jovenel Moïse he fought.

"This is the reason why my party is not part of the government,"

he told AFP. Same position for Edmonde Supplice Beauzile, member of the opposition.

"This government does not create confidence in order to foster a serene environment for the organization of general elections

,

"

said the former senator, president of the Fusion of Social Democrats party.

"We applaud the inclusion of civil society in Haiti's ministerial cabinet as an important voice of Haitian society

,

"

reacted the American embassy in Port-au-Prince on Twitter.

Joseph Domingue Orgella, a head of civil society organizations, admitted to having participated in the appointment of three ministers within the new government.

Insufficient effort

But these efforts are considered insufficient by others.

“The Commission for the search for a solution to the Haitian crisis does not differentiate between the government of Claude Joseph and that of Ariel Henry. They are both inventions of the international through the BINUH (local UN office, editor's note). The international powers associated in the Core Group are acting more and more as amateurs to prevent the Haitian people from exercising their sovereignty, ”

denounced Jacques Ted Saint Dic, a member of civil society organization.
