There is more locally produced food in the Isar valley than the consumer realizes. That is why the Bund Naturschutz has published a local shopping guide.

Icking

- The local group of the Bund Naturschutz (BN) in Icking has published a local shopping guide.

This is truly a pioneering achievement, because so far there are only a few of them.

“We just wanted to raise awareness of what is available on site.

That is more than you think, "says BN local chairman Dr.

Beatrice Wagner.

From A for spread to W for sausage, everything is included.

The whole thing took a lot of effort.

The first thing to do was to contact the local farmers and ask if they would participate.

Then a crowdfunding campaign was launched, and with success: 35 supporters and the Raiffeisenbank Isar-Loisachtal raised 1,670 euros.

With this, a flyer - charmingly illustrated by Jutta Gelius - was designed, which the BN local group threw into every post box in Icking.

The buying guide went online recently.

At www.einkaufen-icking.de you can find everything your heart desires, red the products from Icking, green those from the surrounding area - that is, still accessible by e-bike.

The homepage has the advantage that it can be updated again and again, most recently with the Weidenkam palace gardener and Bavaria Selection in Wolfratshausen.

The initiator Wagner - who is also the local SPD chairwoman - naturally hopes that the local providers will benefit from this.

But she also hopes that a thought process will be set in motion among consumers - namely that food is not just there, but must first be produced.

“When you go to Rewe, the shelf is always full,” she says.

Those who take care of themselves regionally, on the other hand, get a feeling that meat is only there when it has just been slaughtered.

Or that strawberries are only harvested from May to August at the latest.

The BN local chairman thinks it is absurd that farmers were not classified as "systemically relevant" during the Corona period.

“You couldn't be more systemically relevant,” she emphasizes.

After all, the crisis made many people think about their eating habits, since eating out was not possible.

In this respect, the time is right for the buying guide.

Young farmer Ruth-Maria Frech from Irschenhausen finds the work of the BN local group an enrichment.

"We have to support local agriculture, because if it is no longer there, we can no longer feed ourselves locally," she says.

Cheeky is also a reminder that when the farms die, the landscape changes.

Where the typical lush cow pastures still exist today, stubble fields of maize would then perhaps emerge.

Dorothee Rieger from Walchstadt also likes the local shopping guide. “People from the surrounding area find out what is growing and flourishing here,” she says. “We don't have good arable soil in the Isar Valley because it is stony, barren and loamy. But it is good, nutrient-rich grassland, perfect for the cows. ”That is why livestock farming makes much more sense than using a lot of artificial fertilizer to transform the local soil into a vegetable field by force, according to Rieger. Communicating such connections is important to her, because: "Many people no longer even know where their food comes from." The new local shopping guide of the Ickinger Bund Naturschutz makes it clear again.
