Lattakia Governorate is witnessing an active tourist movement with the advent of the tourist season, which includes various sea beaches, resorts, and private chalets, in light of a large number of citizens and vacationers from various Syrian governorates.

The Director of Lattakia Tourism, Yasser Douai, confirmed in a statement to the SANA Economic Bulletin that the tourist season this year is very good, as the hotel occupancy rate exceeded 90 percent, and that all classified and qualified tourist facilities are subject to safety, security and health monitoring conditions.

Douai explained that efforts focused on restoring the glamor of the tourism movement in the areas that were subjected to terrorism through the rehabilitation of damaged facilities, in addition to promoting remote natural tourist areas and encouraging mountain tourism that supports rural development, indicating that many tourist facilities in Kassab and Solfna of different levels have returned to service. Recently, after rehabilitating it, some damaged and ancient facilities were also restored in Slunfeh and others.

He added: The focus is also on open beaches and popular tourism, in addition to activating the joint work program between the Ministries of Tourism and Culture to promote, protect and preserve the Syrian cultural heritage and to develop internal and external cultural tourism and the cultural and tourism employment of a number of archaeological sites, which contributes to the diversity of the tourism product in the Syrian coast. In cooperation with the Directorate of Internal Transport and to encourage domestic tourism, internal buses run from Lattakia on Fridays and periodically to the summer areas in the countryside of Lattakia “Mashqita, Al-Basit, Al-Tariqia, Wadi Qandil and Zaghzin”, Al-Ghanimiya and Wadi Sheikhan, and increasing buses operating on the Blue Beach Line

Douai indicated that there are 24 tourist rehabilitation forms for food establishments of different levels with a capacity of 1,936 feeding chairs granted by the Ministry of Tourism and the Lattakia Tourism Directorate, in addition to the granting of 3 tourist praise licenses for accommodation facilities with a capacity of 79 rooms and 122 beds, at an investment cost of about 13 billion pounds during the first half. from the year 2021.

Douai indicated that the Tourism Directorate provides many services to investors and follows up on the reality of the implementation of tourism projects and the difficulties they encounter and ways to address them, providing the necessary support for private tourism projects, rehabilitating them and returning them to service, and including projects whose completion rate has reached more than 70 percent within the facilities and bank loans according to the directives of the Presidency of the Government.

The directorate is also studying securing new sites and offering them for investment to set up popular tourism projects at prices commensurate with all segments, in addition to giving direct orders to work on the projects that were proposed at the 2019 Investment Forum. Tourist facilities in Lattakia and the extent of their commitment to the laws and conditions of work, indicating that 60 seizures were recorded during the first half of this year, most of them violations related to the Corona epidemic.
