Marta and Formiga from Brazil make Olympic history

Brazilian soccer players have participated in at least five Olympic Games, writing their names in the history of the Olympic jousting

Marta of Brazil, considered the greatest female soccer player of all time, became the first female soccer player to score goals in five consecutive Olympics when she scored two goals against China on Wednesday.

The match was 5-0 in favor of Brazil.

The 35-year-old, who scored her first Olympic goal in Athens in 2004, opened the scoring in the ninth minute before adding her second goal in the 74th minute in the Group F match in Rifu.

Marta now has 12 Olympics goals to her name, just two less than her compatriot Cristiane's all-time record.

Marta's teammate Formiga, 43, also wrote her name in the record books on Wednesday by becoming the first female footballer to participate in seven Olympics.

Formiga, who completed 72 minutes on Wednesday, has played in every Olympic tournament since women's soccer made its debut at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Brazil will face the Netherlands in Group F on Saturday.
