"The life of Hong Kong people may be too convenient and wealthy. For example, when the weather is hot, parents will immediately turn on the air conditioner. Children may not be able to think that this is related to the climate crisis. In general, Hong Kong children are in kindergartens and elementary schools.

"The life of Hong Kong people may be too convenient and wealthy. For example, when the weather is hot, parents will immediately turn on the air conditioner. Children may not be able to think that this is related to the climate crisis. Moreover, Hong Kong children generally pay less attention to the surrounding environment in kindergartens and elementary schools." Principal Huang of the Philip Hall Xingmin Kindergarten of the Southern Guangdong Lutheran Church pointed out the problem of Hong Kong children’s weak environmental awareness.

To this end, this year's environmental protection group Greenpeace launched the original picture book "The Homeless Me" and sent the picture books to different kindergartens through the "Children Love the Environment · Book Donation Project", hoping to educate children through childlike stories. They learned about the relevant knowledge early. After receiving the picture books, many principals recommended them to more people, and extended their stories to different educational activities, so that children can learn with joy and understand the importance of caring for the earth!

"Homeless Me" Introduction:

The story tells about the protagonist Doudou's journey on the sea. He recognizes the animals that have become homeless under the climate crisis, and teaches children about the relationship between climate change and the global environment in a simple way.

Use green picture books to tell stories to help children plant environmentally friendly seedlings

Children have heard the story told by the teacher in the picture book "The Homeless Me", and they will understand that under climate change, small animals and even people have the opportunity to lose the "Children Love the Environment · Book Donation Program" since the implementation of the "Homeless "I" picture books have been distributed to 100 kindergartens in various districts in Hong Kong, benefiting more than 15,000 children. One of them is the Southern Guangdong Lutheran Church Philip Tong Xingmin Kindergarten in Chai Wan. The school has been advocating "less homework". "I hope every child

Since the implementation of the “Children’s Love for the Environment · Book Donation Project”, the “Homeless Me” picture book has been distributed to 100 kindergartens in various districts in Hong Kong, benefiting more than 15,000 school children, and one of them is in Canton, Chai Wan. Southern Lutheran Church Philip Church Xingmin Kindergarten, the school has been advocating "less homework", hope that every child can learn happily, there is an organic plantation in the school for children to participate in planting, understand the importance of cherishing food.

However, for the cultivation of children’s awareness of climate protection, Principal Huang admitted that it is not enough. "When Hong Kong children enter kindergartens and elementary schools, they rarely pay attention to the surrounding environment and climate, and parents seldom discuss global environmental issues with their children. It prevents them from receiving relevant knowledge from their urination.” Principal Huang added that Hong Kong children often start to truly understand environmental protection knowledge after they enter secondary school, and then they gradually understand the importance of environmental protection to their lives. Therefore, when kindergartens are full of children The interesting picture book "The Homeless Me" is believed to be a good opportunity to educate a group of kindergarten students about the climate crisis and to plant environmental protection for them.

Principal Huang pointed out that the school's teachers even used the content of "Homeless Me" to organize a small theater for children, and through role-playing, children can understand the situation of different animals.

Greenpeace will go to the kindergartens that have accepted the "Children's Love for the Environment · Book Donation Program" to conduct training seminars for teachers to enhance teachers' awareness of the climate crisis, so that the work of educating children to care for the environment can be more comprehensive.

In addition to Principal Huang’s admiration of the “Children’s Love for the Environment · Book Donation Project”, which allows schools to educate children about environmental protection through the in-depth stories of the "Homeless Me" picture book, there are also different kindergarten principals who are very good at picture books.
