Politicians are again warning in shrill tones of Corona. Health Minister Spahn is already painting the incidence 800 on the wall. But there is no reason for scaremongering. A comment by Georg Anastasiadis.

Politicians are again warning in shrill tones of Corona.

Health Minister Spahn is already painting the incidence 800 on the wall.

But there is no reason for scaremongering.

A comment by Georg Anastasiadis.

If the delta variant of the coronavirus spreads at the current rate, Germany would have a seven-day incidence of 800 in autumn, warns Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn. That sounds bad, it is bad too - and yet it is not suitable for new scaremongering or even as a reason for a new lockdown. Because those whose lives are threatened by the virus are then vaccinated - if they manage to get the vaccination. In a free state, that remains the decision of each individual.

From autumn, Covid 19 is a potentially fatal disease only for unvaccinated adults. The study situation is clear: the common vaccines protect very effectively against severe courses and also drastically reduce the risk of the virus being passed on. Against this background, freedom-restricting measures for vaccinated and convalescent people are no longer reasonable. Politicians should be very careful not to extend the state of emergency for them. Otherwise she would never find her way out of the maze of pandemic politics with the withdrawal of constitutionally guaranteed civil rights. After all, the virus is here to stay.

What cannot be ignored is the risk that the health system could again reach its limits in autumn because the unvaccinated quarter or fifth of the adult population is so severely affected by new infections that the hospitals fill up again and urgently needed intensive care beds are no longer available to other patients To be available. An incidence of 800 in autumn would therefore correspond to an incidence of 200 this spring, when there was hardly any vaccination protection. New assembly and access restrictions, but this time only for the unvaccinated, remain on the agenda as a possibility. The question of how long the state should offer free tests, for example at music events, at the expense of the taxpayer, also urgently needs to be discussed. All of this is by no means the "compulsory vaccination through the back door" complained about by vaccination opponents and certainly not modern "apartheid". But the legitimate attempt of the state to enable the majority in the pandemic to lead a reasonably normal life and to protect itself from being overwhelmed by the minority.
